To be fair to Roonwilldo, if I'd have come across an article in the Guardian saying (and I quote:

Quote

Actually, their love of Tom Petty seems especially appropriate in the run up to Glastonbury, with Petty and his Heartbreakers strongly tipped to be playing the festival

I'd have started a thread as well - especially being in The Guardian (who you'd expect to be more clued up than the tabloids what with having a presence at the festival).

With no official confirmation on the vast majority of acts expected any time soon, there's nowt wrong with a good bit of speculation from such sources.

as JudyBlue said...they'll be in the midst of their US tour. and no chance of getting picked up by Air U2 on their way across the Atlantic as they play in Wisconsin (that's where the fellas from 'Love Actually' went to discover America) on the friday.

now...can we vilify the idiot who insisted Petty was booked to be on "before an American solo act" a few months back. It amazes me how people can just post such rubbish just to spark a few pages of responses...and it amazes me even more how people like myself get their hopes up upon initially reading such nonsense

We can't forget the inside scoops which the guardian have given us in the last few years of glasto, i remember reading something about jay z quite early on and definately last year with the boss and shakey, i found out about then rumoured in like september or something!!

i think with the sunday being from their tour dates they could fly over and play before stevie on the pyramid or the headline the other stage, though i doubt they'd have 2 'old school' headliners on the 2 main stages.

Jesus i hope this happens!!!!!!!!!!

If it doesnt happen this yr...start a campaign for next yr DEFINITE??!!
Had another reason/thought for them playing as well...Dave Ghrol did a stint of drumming with them way back when...so if Them Crooked Vultures play, then maybe Dave could do a song with them....that truely would be AMAZING!
Come on people...will this to happen!!!

I think he's doing a co-headling tour with Bob Dylan next year.

Mini-Wilbury reunion?  Apart from the ones who are dead.  And Jeff Lynne, obviously.

after refuting this as complete nonsense, i've had a think about it (an extremely hopeful one) and realize that whomever did make claims to Petty coming on "before an American solo act" months and months ago could be right, since the sunday could be the only day Petty could play, and it would be before Stevie...

but...all things are going against it. Petty and the Heartbreakers do not have any 3-days-in-a-row gigs on their tour. if they did so on sunday, it would be 3-in-a-row, not to mention 5-out-of-6 days, and after an overnight flight to get to the final gig at Glasto. they'd hardly want to make their only ever Glasto appearance full-on knackered. Petty is old, and brittle-looking, on his last legs. not the bono-type who runs Ulan Bolt-like sprints around the 360 spider setup thingie.

Milwaukee is 6 hours behind GMT. a gig there on sat night would finish up at say 530am Glastonbury time. then an 7.5/8 hr flight, not to mention getting to the private jet, etc... into Heathrow/Bristol by 3/4pm at best....that's really pushing it. they'd have to cancel their penultimate pyramid slot, and we'd get thrown Kula Shaker...or Ash... as replacements

Which basically means 'not this year' to me.  Ah well.  :P

Mind you - have you seen who he's playing with on that tour?!

Joe Cocker, ZZ Top, Crosby Stills & Nash!!

Get them all to come with him.  They could share the same plane - carbon footprint and all that!!

The last time something like that happened, Don McLean wrote a song about it!
