as JudyBlue said...they'll be in the midst of their US tour. and no chance of getting picked up by Air U2 on their way across the Atlantic as they play in Wisconsin (that's where the fellas from 'Love Actually' went to discover America) on the friday.
now...can we vilify the idiot who insisted Petty was booked to be on "before an American solo act" a few months back. It amazes me how people can just post such rubbish just to spark a few pages of responses...and it amazes me even more how people like myself get their hopes up upon initially reading such nonsense
after refuting this as complete nonsense, i've had a think about it (an extremely hopeful one) and realize that whomever did make claims to Petty coming on "before an American solo act" months and months ago could be right, since the sunday could be the only day Petty could play, and it would be before Stevie...
but...all things are going against it. Petty and the Heartbreakers do not have any 3-days-in-a-row gigs on their tour. if they did so on sunday, it would be 3-in-a-row, not to mention 5-out-of-6 days, and after an overnight flight to get to the final gig at Glasto. they'd hardly want to make their only ever Glasto appearance full-on knackered. Petty is old, and brittle-looking, on his last legs. not the bono-type who runs Ulan Bolt-like sprints around the 360 spider setup thingie.
Milwaukee is 6 hours behind GMT. a gig there on sat night would finish up at say 530am Glastonbury time. then an 7.5/8 hr flight, not to mention getting to the private jet, etc... into Heathrow/Bristol by 3/4pm at best....that's really pushing it. they'd have to cancel their penultimate pyramid slot, and we'd get thrown Kula Shaker...or Ash... as replacements
