Hi Jim
been travelling 4 hours up to rockness from the borders every year and really enjoying how the festival is moving along. This year however will be slightly different as 18 of us are coming up for my stag do.
We were all geared up for getting 2 or 3 large tipis as weve had them before and thought they were great but we had heard nothing about them this year so my best man got in touch with boutique camping to find out what was happening as they supplied the tipis last time and they told him that they had not been asked to provide tipis for rockness this year. Is this because you have another supplier this year or will there be no tipis this year? Please let me know asap so that I can arrange something else. Many thanks in advance
Danny

Hi Danny. Boutique camping aren’t doing it this year but Pod Pads and Yurts are there. I think you’ll find both these great alternatives. Regards, Jim.

Hi Jim have you heard of the Electric Picnic, was wondering if there would be a chill out area like the Body & Soul at EP, or the Green Field in Glasto, at RockNess or even a dub reggae tent.

Hi. Yes i know the EP boys well. We are looking at a chill out space with one of the sponsors at the moment so will have some news in the next week. We wont have any dub this year. Sorry. Regards, Jim.

Jim, cheers for the Q&A Sessions.

Before everyone starts I know rockness has no aspirations to be like Titp. However I recieved their Be Chilled email for pre-ordering Tennets and collecting on arrival. Is this something rockness could consider with thier drinks suppliers?? Or is the Carling cold beer amnesty returning again??

Would also love to see Beardyman added to the line up.

cheers

Hi. I think you'll be happy with the beer situation :P regards. jim

I think i have this right!! AEG the backer for rockness are they the company that are going to be trying this new ticketing system where you are given a band instead of a ticket with a microchip in it and you can put money on it etc to buy drinks etc when you are in the festival?  I heard they were going to try it with smaller festivals.

So could this mean Rockness could be a potential guniea pig for this idea and what do you think about it??

Hi Deano. AEG are our partners on the event. There are a lot of the new payment systems out there such as the one you mentioned. Its not something AEG are developing themselves as far as i know and we wont be moving over from cash just yet. I think that on the right site this will be the way forward but i dont think its quite right for rock ness just yet. I dont have anything against them at all and if it makes the experience for the customer better then we'll definitely embrace them but i'd like to see more of them in practise before moving our shows over. regards, jim

Jim,

Is this announcement that has just been made really the main bulk of acts? I know people will disagree but imo this is definitely the weakest line-up at this point since the festival went multi-day. I was expecting a lot of big name additions to get excited about after all this waiting and there were a few but not really a great amount.

If there is going to be another big or medium sized announcement, when can we expect it? Oh and while on the subject, any plans to bring some dubstep acts (Benga, Skream, Joker, Nero)? Or anymore house DJs, Mark Knight's ok I suppose but a few more would be good. Oh and Modeselektor or Beardyman too please?!?

That is all.

Hi. Sorry you think its the weakest line up :P

I do think that the strokes, vampire weekend, doves, blondie is a great sunday night and i think we have loads more on the friday this year especially with pendulum and friendly fires who are both really good festival acts.

dj wise club 75 is really going to be special, dave clarke is a legend, boys noize a big rock ness favourite and then there's leftfield who no one has seen for over 10 years.

personally i think its probably the strongest but i totally accept this is a subjective view and i appreciate your feedback.

hopefully you'll still have a great time and email me afterwards to let me know if the show went well for you or not.

we do have some more stuff to come out but the big acts are pretty much all there.

thanks

jim

Thanks for the reply Jim, tbh I was just on a rant after the announcement had been made because i'd built up a few names in my head i'd like announced like most people probably did and was disappointed none of them were on it. Am I a little disappointed still? Yes but it is subjective and it's only my opinion, I know a lot of people are right into the line-up. There is still a lot to see (as many people on the forum have pointed out to me) and I'm going with a bunch of old school mates so I know i'm going to have a great time.

Right now time to go see Modeselektor!

Hi Jim,

Is kevin bridges gona be doing a standup set in a tent (or main stage??)or used as some kind of compere/MC? Pretty big deal booking a stand up comic who can sell out the SECC so hats off to you there, but I'll be interested in to what capacity he'll be used. Standup comedy is something I'd like to see more of at festivals. Maybe get like half a dozen comics a day & run a tent for the afternoon for people to chill out & have a giggle in, just an idea.

Cheers,
GRT

Hi Jim,

What happened to us finding out the 3 Clash Arena headliners in this announcement? Have they been confirmed yet, and if so who are they?

Is this the majority of the acts, how many more have to be released?

And finally, when are we getting the stage splits and what arenas are there on what days?

hi jim,

just wondering if you read any of the other threads on this forum or do you just come on and answer the questions?

there's a lot more negativity towards the festival this year than there has been in previous years, with people complaining that the line up isn't as good and getting fed up waiting for the announcements - what do you think of all this?

View PostPaul ™, on Apr 5 2010, 09:55 PM, said:

Jim,

Yet again the website is slow with information being updated. Last year you promised it would be kept up to date, yet there is still no sign of the latest announcement on the line up page.

This is where people go to see what has been announced, and if the latest acts ain't there then people might be put off buying tickets yet.

Can you get the day/stage splits put on here?

Ta

Jim,

A friend of mine is arriving at Inverness at 11:30pm on the Friday night as he's travelling up on the train after work. Assuming he manages to get to the festival site okay soon after that will he be able to get into the campsite okay at that time of night? Would he still need a full weekend camping ticket or would a 2 day camping one be okay at that time, given that he'll have missed the Friday? Thanks.

Jim,

I see Bloody Beetroots are now playing as a Death Crew 77 live set but would there be any scope at all to have them do a DJ set at some other point throughout the day too? A few acts played more than one set last year and I know a lot of people would love to see a BBs DJ set too, they're going to be up at the festival anyway?

hi Paul
Firstly sorry for the 12 hour delay in finishing the questions off.
all the clash arenas are announced. clash are the presenting partner for the radio soulwax arena and the annie presents arena.
we still have some more acts to announce but we are pretty much there with the big stuff.
next round of big adverts come in 2 weeks and it'll go stage by stage in these.
thanks for sorting out the q&a thread as well.
speak soon

Hi Rachel
I do try and catch up on the main topics when i can.
Im not feeling that there is lots of negativity to be honest as i think theres been load of great feedback about a lot of the acts buy everyone sets a high standard for rock ness so by default i think we get a lot of views from the customers, most of its pretty constructive though. the amount of posts on efests and through face book is also a lot higher than in previous years so maybe thats something to do with it as well.
on announcements i think people need to appreciate that we arent in total control over when we can announce acts all the time so we have to stagger them but we are trying to limit the amount of releases from now on so point taken.
line up wise i really think this year is a good year. when you put all the years side by side theres a lot more depth than previous years but i appreciate thats only my view. we added in a lot of new stuff with howard marks, the arcadia afterburner as well so hopefully people will enjoy these new areas at the show. strongbow arena will be good as well i think.
anyway thanks for the posts.
regards
jim

Hi Jim, Line ups looking good although I think it would look better with myself on it! Just wondering if there are any dj competitions this year? Failing that if your stuck for a dj I'm your man. How about a wee Jim'll fix it? I won a competition to play at EXIT festival last year and I would love to play in the highlands since I'm from there. I've played International festivals but none at home. Lots of love, TheHogg.

Hi Jim,

Not so much a question as a request. Mando Diao have a gap in their fesitval calendar between the 4th & 18th June. Very popular band on the continent just now, not really broke out over here like they should have. Try & book them from Rockness. Pretty please :P
