I think there's probably a good chance of this happening.

"Christ, what an awful shout. These would all be nice"

In your opinion mate. Alot of people find this a great shout.

Surely not people with functioning ears? And are they anywhere near big enough to headline NME?

I think he's just being facetious. Some people on this forum really don't get when people are joking.

Lostprophets
Weezer
The Hives
Franz Ferdinand

Does anyone think Franz are likely?  Supposedly working on their 4th album but havent played since their latest release last year.  Maybe subbing to Arcade Fire or headlining the tent on another day?

Franz is a strange one. They were put in a headline slot way too early in their career and their stock has definately gone down since then. It all depends on egos - are they willing to take a lower slot and as such admit they aren't as popular as they used to be?

I'd say with the calibre of recent NME headliners (FNM, Lostprophets, Manics) that an NME headline slot is much more attractive now than it used to be.

It must be a nightmare to headline so early in your career.....(well) If your a big flavour of the month and get asked to headline your obviously going to take that up. It does however, seems strange that relatively new bands get offered headline slots. Maybe it would be better for organisers to give them 2nd or 3rd slots as opposed to headlining. 1 it will give them something to aim for in the future, 2 it won't rule them out for future dates at festivals and 3 the bands wouldn't feel like there stock had went down if offered a similar or lower position the next time.

Although I'm not a big fan I wouldn't say there music has gotten any worse, maybe as they were overhyped to start with this could have attributed to their downfall. We all know of the people who go off bands due to reaching success (KOL etc). Maybe it was a bad move by the band in the first place to take something so high up...

Just a thought.

Yeah, but in accepting a lower slot than Mainstage headliner, just four years after being considered worthy of that slot could be perceived as them admitting they're on their way down. If their management see it this way too I wouldn't expect to see them at Reading any time soon.

James (not really leeds type of music, but with a new album, you never know)

Eh?? Not really Leeds type of music?? They have headlined you know??

A great band, can't see them playing these days myself but it would be great to have them back on the mainstage, surely too big for the tents and a perfect for a mid afternoon / early evening slot.

They are loads of bands from this era still touring (or have reformed) and with good size crowds, Carling Fest seem to have a bit of a blind spot for them though. Unfortunately.

I don't know, there management might not be too happy with them playing a lower slot but the the band probably would, obviously depending on who they were stuck on below.

Yep safe to say the vast majority of these wont play. Some would obviously be more welcom than others though.

Franz are still bigger than Arcade Fire aren't they? I guess the bookers are hoping their new album will be as well recieved as the last two and sell more units.
