forgive my ignorance, but who the f**k are are manowar? really that big a deal? or yet another "legend" who whilst being hyped up like hell, really can't pull in the punters (heaven and hell i'm looking at you).

Taken from Wikepedia.
Manowar is a heavy metal band from Auburn, New York, United States of America, formed in 1980. They are known for writing lyrics with an emphasis on the heavy metal genre itself, fantasy (particularly sword and sorcery) and mythological topics (particularly Norse mythology). Manowar's sound is loud and bombastic; in an interview for MTV in February 2007, bassist Joey DeMaio lamented that "these days, there's a real lack of big, epic metal that is drenched with crushing guitars and choirs and orchestras... so it's nice to be one of the few bands that's actually doing that."[2] In 1984 the band was included in the Guinness Book of World Records for delivering the loudest performance, a record which they have since broken on 2 occasions. They also hold the world record for the longest heavy metal concert after playing for 5 hours and 1 minute in Bulgaria in 2008.[3]
Although the band has never been a mainstream commercial success in the United States, they maintain a strong cult following there. In contrast, they are extremely popular in the heavy metal scene in Europe, Japan, Australia and South America. Dedicated fans are known and referred to by the band as "Manowarriors" or "Immortals", and collectively their fans are known as the "Army of Immortals".
The band has sold over 9 million albums.
Or just ask your average Bloodstock festival punter.

They are all but a comedy band, back in the 80's they had a couple of popular tunes. But they are basically conan the barbarian with guitars. Shite tbh

Couldn't agree more, if they announce Manowar instead of Faith No More when both are clearly available then it will be far worse when they hyped up the second headliner and produced Heaven and Hell.
It would be a real own goal for Sonisphere UK as people will not buy tickets based on Manowar (but they most certainly would to see Faith No More) and most people wouldn't be able to name a song by them or would even bother and watch them, the tents were packed last year when H & H played.

"If anybody don't like Manowar, what do we say? f**k you! You don't like the fans of Manowar, what do we say? f**k you!" -Joey DeMaio
This should cover it.

whys everyone bashing on Manowar so u might not like them i bet Manowar fans don't like FNM theres always bands at festivals u don't like but bands can surprise u if u give them a chance plus it's not like Manowar or FNM hasn't earned a place to sub-headline there both great bands so u really shouldn't be bashing on Manowar just cause u don't know them so just let Sonisphere get on announcing bands and just enjoy the festival spirit plus im sure Soni will get both bands to play plus tech theres still two sub-headlining slots left
plus the tents where also pack alot last year during H&H cause it was pooring down with rain i nearly froze to death watchin them
lol

I would give my left nut to see Manowar. Im praying to Odin they get announced. FNM would be great too, we need a decent band to wash away the foul taste of that last announcement.

101proof im guessing you're a Pantera fan? Well im hoping we get Down, especially as they're playing High Voltage the week before, that would wash it away right?

DREAM THEATER.
Do the tour date math (i.e. they are supporting Iron Maiden in the US leading up to the festival)

I think Soulfly will be at either Download or Soni, they already have announced European festival dates between the two. Just depends which fits them best

Soulfly will be at Soni I think and Download next year... they won't play below 4th top on the mainstage and theres enough bands rumoured for those slots already lol. Same with HIM.
I just would have thought Soni would have got a few of those bands out there on the poster already, probs in a tussle with Download I guess.

Good shout with Sepultura. have been checking out their upcoming tour dates and the UK tour finishes roughly a week before Sonisphere. Surely there's a chance?
If Sonisphere manage to book Soulfly too....... maybe a wee colaboration could be on the cards for old times sake???

Theres that and the fact that they are playing the Hevy festival thing in Kent on 8th August can`t see them going home then coming back a week later.
