HUNGRY PIGEON IN 2009
Hungry Pigeon was the talk of Manchester this year and undoubtedly Manchester’s biggest city centre festival being the only Manchester festival nominated for the UK Festival Awards. In our inaugural year in 2009 we were nominated in the Metropolitan Festival Category alongside longer established events such as Liverpool Sound City and Camden Crawl
With an incredible schedule of live music from 150 bands, plus live art, poetry, short films, U18s events, art exhibitions, busking and even its very own Northern Quarter art treasure trail,
HUNGRY PIGEON really does have something for everyone!
It is spread over 20 venues around the Northern Quarter, and also features a massive outdoor stage in the heart of Manchester City Centre – Piccadilly Gardens!!
Backed by Manchester City Council and Marketing Manchester, Councilor Mike Amesbury, Executive Member for Culture and Leisure for Manchester City Council said: “This is a brand new festival
for the city and we are proud to be supporting the new and upcoming talent involved”
In 2009 we attracted over 15000 people to the event over the Bank Holiday weekend
Artists in 2009 included KID BRITISH / NINE BLACK ALPS / WAVE MACHINES / MISTY’S BIG ADVENTURE / THE TRAVELLING BAND / TEN BEARS/ THE VORTEX / THE MAYBES / THE JESSIE ROSE TRIP / FRAZER KING
CASIO KID / GIDEON CONN / THE GAY BLADES... and many more....

Following a hugely successful inaugural year in 2009 which saw 15,000 revellers attend throughout the Bank Holiday Weekend, Hungry Pigeon is back bigger and better for 2010 and will be taking place between May 28th-30th 2010
The arts and music event builds on its success from last year which saw the likes of Kid British, Nine Black Alps and The Travelling Band performing to capacity crowds. The festival was also nominated in the UK Festival Awards for Best Metropolitan Festival alongside the likes of Camden Crawl and Liverpool Sound City, representing Manchester as the only festival nominated.
Opening up the festival on the Friday night is Hungry Pigeon Vs The Aftershow with a headline slot from the Reverend Soundsystem. Reverend Soundsystem is Jon McClure plus special guests performing Reverend & The Makers songs in an electro style.
With Liam Frost, The Longcut, Karima Francis, Lowline, To The Bones heading up the bill, this years line up celebrates all that is good about Manchester music and is testament to the quality of the bands coming out of the city. Based in the Northern Quarter the music programme with over 150 bands takes over established venues such as Night & Day, Manchester Roadhouse, Moho Live, Dry Bar and following its re-opening last year we're extremely proud to have Band On The Wall involved.
On Saturday May 29th Piccadilly Gardens will again host the Hungry Pigeon Main Stage. A free party for all, supported by Manchester City Council and Visit Manchester. This year stage will be hosted by XFM DJ and former Inspiral Carpets member Clint Boon who adds "You can't help feel with the Hungry Pigeon Festival that it's another Manchester success story in the making. Check back in 5 years time and I'm sure it'll be one of the most talked about annual events in the city's live music calender"
The centre piece of this years Arts programme is the exhibition "XPOSED – A Decade Of Manchester Music, by Karen McBride". Karen McBride's work with the likes of Robbie Williams and The Tings Tings across the mediums of black and white film to digital photography is legendary and following exhibitions at The Lowry and The Green Room this multi-venue exhibition celebrating a decade of Manchester's music, both underground and international.
With vintage clothing becoming an increasingly popular fashion trend, traders from across the UK will come together for the Hungry Pigeon Festival. Vintage Threads, a subsidiary of Manchester Fashion Network, has been running vintage fairs for just under a year, creating a dedicated following. The events feature garments from the past 10 decades and has seen the likes of vintage Chanel, Calvin Klein and Mary Quant pieces. Event organiser Emma Doyle says “Vintage Threads allows shoppers to find a variety of vintage all in one place. We’ve established a strong and loyal following over the past 12 months so we’re really excited to be working with Hungry Pigeon”
With an incredible schedule live art, poetry, short films, U18s events, art exhibitions, busking and even its very own Northern Quarter art treasure trail, HUNGRY PIGEON really does have something for everyone!
Early Bird weekend tickets are on sale till April 1st via www.seetickets.com and http://www.wegottickets.com for £15 afterwhich the price will rise to £25
