Well who else would win it? Nothing else gets remotely close.

It's like the Pope winning Catholic of the Year - a rather pointless award really.

1. Glastonbury
2. Coachella (Still a long way behind though)

Then you've got the likes of (In no particular order):
Exit, Dour, Rock Wretcher, Roskilde, Reading & Leeds, T in the Park, Oxegen, Benicassim, Open'er, Rock Am Ring

It's still a minnow in terms of international reputation compared to Glastonbury.

No one pick up on the concerning bit of the article?

Quote

Michael Eavis was there at the sw*nky ceremony to collect the prize (before embarking on a well-deserved holiday in San Francisco).

Michael's on holiday. Posted Image The festival won't plan itself.

Yeah, I would too, have looked into it though & the logistics turn out to be mega bucks plus would have to buy all the stuff before you get to the desert. Wouldnt fancy lugging a weeks worth of stuff half way across the world. And there is no commercial exchange therefore you couldnt turn up with nothing & buy it all like you could at GF.

Would be pretty cool experience though. Maybe one day when some of the kids have flown the nest. Hopefully it will still be going then...

[aol] me too [/aol] but as the likelihood of me actually setting foot on US soil at any time is about the same as me setting foot on the moon (no doubt technically also US soil mind you :P), there's no chance of it ever happening :P

As for the gear etc. that's the whole point - bring everything you need (incl water etc !) and then take absolutely everything that may be left away with you afterwards.  Love the desert, leave absolutely no trace whatsoever, not even the merest hint and all that :P  Maybe glasto-goers could/should learn a thing or two from the principles :P  Nothing to stop you buying gear when you get to the US tho, just that you can't really buy anything at all at the festival itself, although you can 'trade' of course.  Just so long as you take any gear away and dispose of it responsibly afterwards of course then no real problem :(

Nice.  Me too!

It's going to be quite a challenge for another festival to match or best that lineup this year.  Thom Yorke, Charlotte Gainsbourg (to be joined by Beck, says the word on the street), Fever Ray, Gorillaz, Little Dragon, She & Him, Grizzly Bear, LCD Soundsystem, Pavement, Devo...crazy!

Nope, just stating a truth.

Glastonbury is now very well known all around the world. Exit is not.

That's a comment only on how well known they both are, and nowt more.

I'm not sure what basis is used for giving the award, but if it's a vote by a group of people large or small, a festival that someone isn't particularly aware of isn't going to get that person's vote.
