Sounds like you guys had a great time this year. As there's no Glastonbury next year I was looking at heading to SXSW to investigate for myself but I have a few questions as it's obviously not your typical festival that us Brits are used to so:
- Am I right in thinking it's perfectly acceptable to turn up without a wristband and either stick to seeing free shows (which there are plenty of) or pay on the door for others?
- Is it only the unofficial stuff I can get into without a wristband or is the official stuff an option too but at a price on the door?
- Camping is obviously not an option but are there plenty of Hotels nearby or is booking a hotel likely to be the equivalent of the Glastonbury ticket day scramble?
- The RSVP events are made pretty much just to control numbers coming in, correct? As long as I get my name down for them I'll be allowed in. Is that right or are some of them only available for wristband owners to RSVP to?
I think that's me all questioned out for the moment. As I'm sure you can tell I can't quite get used to the idea that some of you are saying you had the best festival ever but didnt actually buy a ticket!!! Any other info you guys think might be handy would be appreciated too as despite my trying I can't find much info online about the festival side of SXSW, their website promotes it as more of an industry conference thing which I guess is what its primarily intended to be.
