So basically the idea is you can park any time after 9 on Tuesday, with very basic amenities, i.e. toilets, and people are expected to stay in their cars for up to 11 hours till the gates open at 8.
Can't see that happening. People will be on there phones finding out when others from their party arrives and of course going to meet then when their car comes in.
Will Stewards be going up and down telling people to return to their cars?
When will people decide to lug their gear towards the gate and queue? 5, 3, 1am.
Will some towards the front of the queue be on their phones saying to newly arrived friends we're near the front, come and join us.
I hate it when people cut into the front of queues.
It's all a new experience.
My hope is no rain and a light and happy atmosphere, with lots of smiling faces.
What do you predict?

I predict a real barney between me & the bunch of friends I'm going with.
Last year a mate & I drove down overnight (leaving Yorkshire around 1-00), arrived at the site around 6-30 & were in by 9-00 Wednesday morning; We got a prime spot @ the top of Kidney Mead with a view of the Pyramid stage
This year there's more of us, as my mates are all taking their girlfriends (my OH is sadly working abroad through June). We all booked hotel rooms in Bristol for the Tuesday night (literally the day before ME announced that the car parks would open early
) with the aim of getting there early on Wednesday morning.
My view is "sod the hotel room - get there Tuesday night". I reckon the roads will be as bad on Wednesday morning as they were last year. My mates (or rather their girlfriends
) beg to differ.

I predict a bank of six portaloos for the whole car park and lots of peeing in the hedges... :/

I can see lots of people gathering in the car parks and being happy. People will get out of their cars and I expect stewards will loosely try to enforce people staying in their car as it is possibly a license requirement, but it won't be enforced strongly and so most people will just chill out wherever!
I can also see that I will be enthusiastic, arrive there at 9pm, park up, attempt to sleep in the car and at about 6am when I give up sleeping, will really regret arriving so early because I am so knackered and won't be able to catch up on sleep until Monday night!

I think they will have to let you out to stretch your legs once in a while unless they are going to issue you with some disclaimer on entering the car park that you sign to say the festival accepts no responsibility for any incidence of DVT.
Noone can sit in a car for potentially 10 hours without increasing thier risk of DVT.
Maybe flight socks will be issued? And catheters....

I predict lots of people using this as a reason to attempt to get in free... I have no idea how stringent car park checks will be from 9pm to 6am... will they be checking tickets and car parking passes... if people arrive on foot will they be turned away? Even if they give a good (made up excuse) for being on foot (i.e i got out for whatever reason but my friend in the car already drove in) Once people are in the car park they have a potential 11 hours to try and get into the site... not a bad window if you are determined.
I hope there is a lot of security on the fences!

Once-green festival gives early arrival chance, but only to car users
I predict a huge rise in car use over public transport, which will at least mean less queueing at Castle Cary for the dozen or so that still get the train this year.
Perhaps you could go one further and allow MASSIVE 4X4s even earlier entry, as long as they have no more than 2 people in?
*end of rant*

I drove in last year in my 4x4 with only me....
However I had shuttled peeps down to Glasto before and even onto site on the Tuesday (which was cool) then and I left with more.
However there where no hitchhikers to pick up on the way from the B&B....
This year is different. I dont have a clue how I am getting there yet, on what day or by what means....

well i plan on getting there for 9, and as for sleeping in a car its never a problem. i used to spend entire weekends living in my car watching the rally up in the welsh forests.
but being able to sleep is another matter, i should imagine by then i will be like a kid at christmas!

Unless there is a very important and very relevant but yet to be announced significant missing detail to this grand masterplan, I predict Glasto winning an extra a greener festival award this year ...
... the shiny new "best way to deter peeps from using public transport and/or other sustainable means to get to the festival ever" award that is
It's now officially a full 5 day festival so come as early as you can to ensure that you don't miss the start on Wednesday and definitely don't leave it until Thursday cos you'll obviously miss the extra entertainment we're now providing. To make it so much easier for you, you can even come earlier than ever if you arrive by private vehicle *and* there are even more car park spaces than ever for you to use this year into the bargain ! So don't forget, a full 5 days, come early and bring those cars !! You really don't want to be at the @rse end of an 'n' 10's of 1000's of selfish and inconsiderate private vehicle users queue do you ? You can't beat 'em so just join 'em. Pure genius, simply has to win by several lengths
Glasto loves cars and lots of peeps being on site and spending money as soon as possible ...ooop's sorry, um, must have picked up the wrong festival hat for a moment there, um, what I really meant is "love the farm leave no trace" and "Glasto loves peeps who use public transport and other sustainable alternatives" of course. No we do, honestly, would we lie to you and all that.
Quote
We 'really' encourage you to join them, and reduce your carbon footprint. Since 2004, Glastonbury Festival has worked 'really' hard to improve its record in encouraging people out of cars and onto public transport, reducing the number of public cars on site from 60,000 in 2000 to 36,000 in 2007.
Bit of shame that we're probably going to kinda fcuk that record up way more than a bit this year but hey-ho, not 'really' that big a deal is it. More peeps on site and spending money earlier than ever, gotta be good ... um, for all the good causes of course. Oh yeah, and for the locals as well of course. Mustn't forget the locals. Wow!, was that a good excuse that just kinda conveniently appeared right out of nowhere all ripe for the picking or was that a bl**dy good excuse. I mean come on peeps, this is 2010 ffs ! Sustainable transport is a bit over-rated and all that really so let's not worry too much about the old tree-hugger brigade or making it even more unattractive than ever to leave the car at home. Anyone who *really* wants to go 'green' can always come along later if they don't fancy being behind several 10's of 1000's of genuine Glasto-goers. Love thecarfarm and all that ...
PS: Seems like someone else got in a mini-rant while I was preparing a much more substantial affair
... wanders off *very* happy knowing that he's not the only one who sees this as Glasto compromising itself and it's ideals bigtime after all because I was seriously thinking that I must be the only one round here who sees this plan as a not very good thing in general and not in the slightest a good thing for the long-term.

we're driving down (10 of us in 1 people carrier & 1 Vivaro van) leaving around midnight to get down there around 3am and then just park up and get the party started and wait for the gates to open.

Even if there are more cars the majority should be parked up with the motor off, there must have been thousands of cars running on tick over last year for hours in the queue probably with the a/c blaring. Having less queues in the day time makes the buses etc more efficient for those who use them anyways.

Actually, I see none of this happening whatsoever, thats as far as thousands of punters being stuck in the car parks with little resources is concerned. I can't see organisers let alone local councillors letting this go through. Albeit for one night only but still far too risky, fire hazards, diy mini-raves, drunk drivers, hit and runs!, pissing and shitting everywhere, lots of dodgy goings on, a bit like it was back in 2000!
If the carparks are open Tuesday then so will the festival gates too.
