Hello All!
Just a quick question for a university project that I am doing - On average, what different items do you take with you to a festival event?
cheers
Joe

Tent, spends & some change of clothes and you're laughing, anything else you can buy there (except for crates of beer). :P

Flags... that's reminded me... Any suggestions for good places to get them from, and, what's a sensible height

I've just asked my boyfriend. He has a pompey flag that we take. He got the pole from the garden centre. It is some kind of extendable thing that holds up trees. You can get proper poles as well but I think his way was designed on a budget and because it was easier to go to the garden centre rather than hunt for flag pole!

I used to take everything INCLUDING the kitchen sink but every year i go seem to take less and less.
Trust me, you need MUCH less than what you think you'll need!
I could barely walk with my massive 150L bergan packed to overflowing point of useless shit and a holdall in one hand and a rucksack in the other. f**king stupid idea, but i didnt know any better. I had to make three trips back to the car to take everything back because the bags were so heavy!

My normal loadout:

# 150L bergan with all the pouch attachments and waterbottles although most of this is excessive as normally i don't use up half the space, but its handy if i ever buy anything. I think i'll take my sister's 90L bergan this year.

# Tent, obviously

# Airbed... Optional.

# Mini gas stove with pan & a knife, fork, cup... Just the very basic camping cooking gear pretty much. I normally buy the gas stove there and chuck it in the bin when i'm done. They normally only last a short while anyway and most often than not last me exactly the length of the festival!

# Tinned food with bread rolls. Anything from tinned burgers to soup, beans e.t.c vary it up a bit!

# Clothes. Be very basic. I'm no connoisseur of fashion at the best of times and generally wear sloppy but comfy layabout clothes, and glasto is no exception. A couple of pairs of trackies & polo tops. Underwear for each day and as many socks as you can bring! I also take a fleece, waterproof trousers & jacket as well as a general purpose coat/jacket.
I wore jeans on my first glasto and hated every minute of it. Just depends whatever you feel comfortable in really.

# Bits and bobs... Little things like a headtorch, spare batteries, first aid kit (must!), a little bottle of that hand sanitizer alcohol rub (recommened!), a regular torch and a backup torch. I often take a big 5 litre bottles (the ones with the handles on top) to act as a water supply in my tent in the festival to save me ferrying about water as well. Obviously fill it up when you're there!

That's all you need to survive glasto comfortably tbh, and can easily fit into a 90L bergan.

I also recommend some sort of waist bag or small light rucksack as well.. Something that's unintrusive to carry around all day just to be able to put a bottle or two of water in and some toilet roll e.t.c, although remember you'll be carrying it all day for miles and miles so dont go too mad.

Because he is a pompey supporter so a Southampton flag would be a bad idea and also a bit silly! :P

And because it is good to be able to pinpoint the tent through a sea of hundreds of thousands, particularly on the first day when you go for a walk and come back to find the whole landscape looking different.

Just don't see why people need to have football flags,so if everyone brought a flag to show were there tent is it would be easy to find it then ??? I put our tent up early on wednesday morning last year in Dairy field area, only a handful when i went, but found it no problem late afternoon when area was full of tents without the aid of a flag of any description...its called sense of direction

Although if I cover the tent in space blankets then it will become a shining beacon in a sea of tents  :P

No need to be rude with your sense of direction comment! I find it easier - I apologise that my sense of direction isn't up to scratch for you!  :P

I don't see why someone shouldn't bring a football flag or any other type of non offensive flag for that matter. As long as they don't take them to the stages and block people's view then I see no problem. I actually quite like having our flag - it has started many conversations with other people.

Good plan!  :P Don't get confused with my tent though this year...I'm going to be investing in some space blankets again!
