If I just open Google Earth, will this still automatically update?

It will probably be obvious, but I thought I would ask

Edit:

Yes it does, it is obvious

Is it just me, but the new map on Glasto Earth has got me extra excited, I know all the changes had been announced previously, but it really makes it feel real to see it all out on the map.

The extra camping with make it easier for late comers, anyone arriving after Wednesday morning, to find a pitch.  However the new late night area I am hoping will really ease the horrific crush and herding which takes place around Shangri-La, Trash City and Arcadia after the headliners have finished.

This is really shapely up nicely, I think I may abandon my "traditional" camping spot, Big Ground and head to the top of Pennard Hill Ground to really stay where action is.

Is it June yet?

Great work with the map Paulo, if you can just provide one that will work on my E71

Question - is the potential new camping on the map? I'm not too great with maps and looking at it I can't figure out where! Can anyone help? (P.S. Sorry if it is something really obvious like it says 'new camping' knowing me it probably is!  :P

I think GlastoEarth can explain it better than me:

From glastoearth.com:

"In a bid to ease the pressure on camping space, the 2010 Licence proposal plans for a new tract of public camping space in the north west of the site.

The fence will move west, opening up two new substantial fields, as well as a strip bordering the north bank of the Whitelake river. In conjunction with this, the main gate for public transport (PGA), will move closer to the bus station, to allow better pedestrian access.

The new layout makes it unlikely that the hospitality channel, unexpectedly introduced in 2009, will be repeated. This walled strip was criticised by both festival goers and stewards after last year's festival, cutting off Info and Lock Ups from Woodsies and forcing southbound pedestrian traffic to navigate round the new hospitality area.

These new camping areas will be especially convenient for the John Peel Stage, Dance Village and Other Stage, and being on the doorstep of PGA means they are likely to fill quickly on the opening day of the festival.

South of the river, the overflow area Bushy Ground comes inside the fence for the first time. This area, which was brought into action in 2009, will offer more than twice the space for emergency camping."

In summary:

Looking at the north west corner of the map, you can see, West John Peel and West Woodies now inside the fence, which has moved west, as stated above.

If you look in the top left corner you'll see the new fields next to the John Peel Stage. The names are nominal - at some point they'll be 'blessed' by the festival and get proper festival names.

It will indeed evolve. If you save it in 'My Places' in GoogleEarth, it will automatically load the latest version whenever you come back to it.

Just to be clear here: by hospitality 'channel' do thay mean the whole hospitality area? It's marked on the map, but is this last years position?

As a regular camper in the Wicket Ground and surrounds, that whole hospitality thing was utterly HORRIBLE and ruined the whole area. I wouldn't want it back again.

The 'channel' was a walled 100m access route from (well, what was marked as) 'Wicket Gate', seemingly a private pedestrian route for hospitality to enter at the fence.

I have no info yet on whether or not the hospitality in Long Ground, and the adjoining section for pods, will remain - but my guess is it will.

Nonetheless, I don't think that gate or channel will exist this year. Combined with the changes around PGA, I think it is safe to assume that Wicket Ground will not be cut off again.

Correction: I mean Woodsies being cut off, not Wicket.

Gotcha - what I think of as the 'walled compound' for hospitality was probably the access route. Would be better with this gone, but I can't see how they could keep hospitality without fencing it off somehow - and it's this that creates the unpleasant atmosphere in what was previously the peace of Outdoor Cinema field.

The walled bit enclosed the pre-built pods, then tapered off into a pedestrian route. With the end of that removed, there would have (just about) been direct access to Woodsies.

It's possible that some of Woodsies will still be used for those pods, but its 99% certain there will not be a "must turn left" at the new PGA.

A more radical plan would be to move hospitality out to the new camping fields, and reinstate the outdoor cinema (and therefore providing a substantial solution to the challenge of screening the 2nd World Cup game).

What will actually come to pass is anyone's guess. Although the site master plan will largely come together over the next month or two, decisions can get made and unmade until very late in the game.

Overall, I think the north west area will be better this year. Whether it'll be enough to tempt you back I don't know!

If it's any consolation, that new hospitality area was horrible last year, went there on the saturday, and it was so soulless and sparse, with all weird house shaped pods here and there. No one there looked like they were having much fun at all tbh.

It made the interstage area less fun too, as few people lived there anymore.

Hospitality's only worth having for the free entrance, the facilities you get are horrible, and the atmosphere's worse.

Trash City looks smaller and it needs to be bigger!  Was insanely crowded last year.
