I've been racking my brain for 'indie' headliners and thought of Snow Patrol. Their greatest hits album is out now so surely they'll be touring for it. But are they a bit too 'pop' for Reading/Leeds?

I think them and especially Keane are the worst mainstream bands this county has ever produced they are awful and I will think twice about buying a ticket if they headline sub or even play.I've been racking my brain for 'indie' headliners and thought of Snow Patrol. There is nothing to say that the headliner will be indie after all last year we had 3 indie headliners and no metal so there is nothing to say that 3 metal bands like Green Day, My Chemical Romance and Blink 182 are the headliners........

SOAD would make alot of people happy but it may be a year too soon for them, they would certainly be heavier addition to the festival than my tongue in cheek metal comment about Green Day, MCR and Blink.
It won't be long before the where is the indie threads start

No chance of Snow Patrol headlining IMO. They're too MOR Indie for R&L, the closest you've came to that was Travis in 01 and I doubt they'd ever go down thast road again.

Technically speaking anything popular is 'pop' so I could call Slipknot, Metallica, Iron Maiden and the likes metal pop.

I was simply in shock that those were labeled as metal lol.
I said punk pop because thought id get people complaining on here that its not real punk in the sense of the word. There was a very similar thread to that last year regarding these types of bands compared to most found on the lock up and i did not wanna kick that one off again.
I'd call them punk. I like all 3 of them. Wouldn't want all 3 as headliners though a bit of diversity for me I think. I'd prefer punk metal indie/rock combo. If it had to be three of one it would be metal for me after the indie last year.

i've not heard their first two albums (aka the forgotten albums) but i thought final straw was absolutely fantastic, full of heartfelt emotion. The last two albums sound like they've been trying too hard to recapture that sound and it just doesn't work, anyone who's seen them know what the setlist is like right now (just remembered i saw snow patrol, but half a decade ago and they only played three or four songs)

It's not a case of them being a pop band (pop bands play all the time) it's a case of them being to MOR. Their first two albums were good, I really liked final straw and then they made an album with a few good songs and a few terrible songs and then an album with almost entirely terrible songs. They are very bland but live they are meant to be good.

God I hope not, they were absolutely awful last year at V. One of the dullest bands of the weekend.

Both the literal first two, and Final Straw are actually really good albums. They're not bad live either.
No chance of them at R/L though.

Isn't every mum's favorite Mr Lightbody going to be recording solo material this year? If so couldn't this prevent snow patrol playing lots of festivals?

Yeah it certainly is, it was a tongue in cheek comment (see my next comment just below!)
I was generalizing them into a metal category as no doubt they will be on here if they are the 3 headliners announced.
