Things that ur happy about

Made the decision to quit the booze a couple of weeks ago and I'm starting to feel better for it. It was quite a miserable time for a variety of reasons, but I'm starting to feel good about myself for the first time in months. Should be quite a money saver as well, I've spent around £4k/year on beer for the last few years and that can't have been good for me in any way.

Had a blood-test today as the doctors wanted to check on my liver condition, but I'm fairly hopeful that things won't be too wrong and I stopped in time.

Got on the list to see Graham Coxon do a secret gig at The Dublin Castle in Camden tonight, very chuffed!!

Anyone know where The Dublin Castle is?

Cool! The Scream are playing somewhere too.

Dublin Castle is just behind Dame St. About 200 metres from Trinity College on the left, if you're walking with Trinity at your back.

Nice one, cheers!

Seen Graham Coxon four times now and he's never failed to please, his performance at Glasto '11 was cracking, one of my highlights! If The Scream come on tonight I don't think I'll be able to contain my excitement.

Hahaha!

Don't follow Nal's directions, you'll end up in Dublin

The Dublin Castle is on Parkway. As you come out of Camden Tube, facing down the high st towards Mornington Crescent, take the road on your right. That's Parkway. its about a 5 minute walk up there on your right.

One of my favourite pubs in Camden, was pretty much a local there for 3 or 4 years. Grotty as hell but a great place.

The Arthurs Day Guinness celebration thing is on this week and next, "The Camden Crawl!" is on, and the Fringe Festival is on too. Theres all sorts of shit going on in Dublin, including gigs in Dublin Castle! Which is actually a real castle and not a pub.

So yes mate, ignore me.

Good luck with it mr kaos. I am only a social drinker myself, but I have friends who are not and are all too keen to encourage me :). The liver is supposed to regenerate, isn't it?

The liver has a wonderful ability to take some shit, however as I understand it there is a tipping point for it to be able to recover (someone said 85%) damage. After that it is downhill all the way. I had to have monthly liver function tests for a few years and each one was a worry.

I started as a social drinker, but I kept on finding excuses to socialise in places with alcohol, and while most of the drinks I've had were around other people who were drinking, I would often end up having 8 pints on nights when others only had 2 or 3. Doing that several times a week is probably a partial cause towards my high frequency of illness and can't have helped my mental state, let alone my wallet. Really pleased that I've made the decision and am sticking to it.

Yeah, as Rufus has said, the liver's supposed to be able to take a fair amount of abuse, but it's definitely time to stop pushing its limits. Just hit 2 weeks sober and I'm starting to feel a bit more lively.

Well done mate. 2 weeks is nothing to be sniffed at. I had a real problem but them I was on the wagon for over 2 years. I do drink now but it is nowhere near the focus of my life. It sounds perverse but I enjoy having a hangover after the infrequent times I do drink.

Do you know I am loving my youngest son being back at home. He is 18 but I am doing his pack lunch for college. I did him peri peri chicken with cous cous and a pocket salad today. He has told me it was lovely and wants me to carry on packing him up. I have just made him a lovely BLT in half a baguette for tomorrow. You know I should be not spoiling him or treating him like an 8 year old but who cares. I am enjoying it.

Cheers. I'm going for 2 years and then see if I can learn to drink in moderation after that, but I'm pleased I've managed to make a decent start. I went out last night and met a bunch of mates in a pub and for the first time since I quit I wasn't really craving a beer while I was there, happy sipping my lemonade and chatting comfortably without feeling the need to keep necking the pints. Really pleasant evening.

Dont ever listen to me for advice. Seriously. How you deal with a problem is up to you. Sorry for the lecture..

In reality well done. It must be extremely hard for a young person (in their 20's) to think they may have a problem and have the balls to do something about it. After I read your story the other week you really have my respect and admiration. Well done :-)

Managed to make my way to the venue and didn't end up in Dublin! laugh.png

Graham Coxon was brilliant, proper loud music in an intimate, sweaty venue. Really enjoyed myself. Can see myself bringing my mates back to that pub for a few pints.

Without being rude, I wasn't, that had been my plan anyway :P

Cheers. I'm getting a fair bit of stick from a few of my mates about it, but it doesn't really bother me. I'm really pleased I've made the decision and (so far at least) am sticking to it.
