Hi
I'm from Lisbon and I went to all the editions of this festival.
The are of the festival is cool but I don't like the line-ups, except Muse and Kaiser Chiefs last year, or Foo Fighters some years ago. They have only 4 or 5 bands per day and normally thematic days like: metal, family, alternative, pop. The festival normally doesn't have camping and there are only one day tickets but there are a camping park in Lisbon.
In my opinion the best portugueese festivals are:
-Alive Festival in Lisbon, the only band confirmed is Pearl Jam. This is a three day festival with a lot of nice bands in the three editions like: White Stripes, Smashing Pumpkins, Bob Dylan, Neil Young, Rage Against The Machine, The Hives, Gogol Bordello, Ben Harper, Vampire Weekend, MGMT, Crystal Castles, Klaxons, TV on The Radio, Prodigy, Placebo, Dave Matthews Band, and many more. This festival have camping by paying 15euros. The ticket for the three days is normally 90euros. There are transport including between the festival and the camping.
-Paredes de Coura for me it's the best. This is a smaller festival and it is in a beautiful place in the north of Portugal. Normally it's a 4 day festival and the all days pass is 70euros. It's an amazing festival with a good ambient, very nice people and very good line-ups. This festival had 16 editions and perfomed there bands like: Nine Inch Nails, Franz Ferdinand, The Hives, Sex Pistols, Thievery Corporation, Editors, Primal Scream, Queens Of The Stone Age, Foo Fighters, Pixies, Nick Cave, Motorhead, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, Mars Volta, Sonic Youth, Dinosaur Jr., Bloc Party, Morrissey, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, etc...

Rock In Rio already brought Red Hot Chili Peppers, Roger Waters, Paul McCartney, Guns n' Roses, Metallica, Santana, Bon Jovi, Rod Stewart, Lenny Kravitz, Amy Winehouse, Sting, Muse, Alanis Morissette, Kasabian...
It is one of the most powerful festivals in the World. They can get almost whatever they want. The line up is always amazing with the biggest names you can imagine. Muse played an exclusive gig last edition (they were not on tour), Paul McCartney refused to play festivals when the organization tried to book him. Then they made him an unrefusable offer.
Being a festival for the whole family they use to have a lot of crap too. And i'm talking in names like Britney Spears, Tokio Hotel, ...which sometimes makes us think if this is rock in rio or pop in rio, but in the other hand they bring the names that no other festival can get.
This is the best festival ever made in Portugal, in spite of a lot of kids telling it isn't. Because this is a festival for the whole family like i said. This is not an usual festival. There's no camping area, and the action is mainly in the main stage (there's a DJ stage after the concerts with names like Carl Cox, and a secondary stage mostly with portuguese bands). There's no such thing as all day ticket. There's only 1 day ticket (around 60€) if you want to go all five days you have to pay aprox 300€ with no camping. If you want a good camping to stay in lisbon during the festival you have Lisboa Camping. To go to the festival you have to cath the bus every day. Don't forget this festival is in 2 weekends (diferent weeks).
The festival inside area is the best you can get, inside you're gonna find what looks like to be more like a thematic park. The stage is the biggest and the coolest you can get, Glastonbury don't even get close.
The main stage line up use to have 5 bands per day, and the capacity is 100 thousand people (don't fogert some of the days use to sold out). This year's line up they only have confirmed Muse, festival organizer said in an interview that AC/DC, Radiohead and Lady Gaga could be on the bill, but nothing confirmed yet. I'm getting worried because the biggest bands on tour have the shedule almost full on the festival days, if you want to go you should wait for the line up because you can get a lot of pop divas unless that's what you're looking for.

Line up always amazing? 1 or 2 good names per day for 60euros?
It's true that they have money to bring there who they want but the line up were nothing special with some exceptions.

It's the best festival in Portugal and the most expensive too.
It's only your opinion. Maybe you don't listen good music or maybe you don't undestand music at all, just maybe...
You pay 60 euros or more (some a lot more) just to see Paul McCartney, Guns n' Roses, Roger Waters, Bon Jovi, or Rod Stewart...just to name a few. And they rarely agree to do festivals. Rock In Rio gets all monters they want and all the "biggest pop divas" (or not...) too. Like i said, it's a festival for the whole family, they have the very best and the very worst. They want to please everyone. You just have to ignore the worst and see the ones no other festival in Portugal will ever get (and hardly will ever act in Portugal again). Some of the names Rock In Rio brought to Portugal didn't come to Portugal in decades.
Now tell me what is the international festival wich has in one edition this line up: Paul McCartney, Peter Gabriel, Ben Harper, Foo Fighters, Kings of Leon, Metallica, Incubus, Sepultura, Alicia Keys...
or this: Guns N' Roses, Red Hot Chili Peppers , Roger Waters, Santana, The Darkness, Kasabian, Sting, Jamiroquai,...
or this one: Lenny Kravitz, Bon Jovi, Rod Stewart, Metallica, Joss Stone, Alanis Morissette, Amy Winehouse, Machine Head, Apocalyptica, The Offspring, Muse, Kaiser Chiefs...
Those line ups talks for it self. If you don't like it it doesn't mean it's bad. In fact it's the best you can get.

Muse
Shakira
Ivete Sangalo
Xutos e Pontapés
John Mayer
Mariza

They changed 28 for 30 because of Rammstein.
Today they confirmed Motorhead for 30th with Rammstein
