To be fair to them, they are usually pretty spot on most of the time but seeing as Neil said he easily disproved The Libertines rumour I'm guessing they've got the same (wrong) info that Neil got sent.
Do they? I might be wrong but I'm sure they usually don't.

surely TCV couldn't headline?!

i do agree with u however just had a check at previous Reading headliners & Reading does seem to like Supergroups/Side project groups headlining:

Just looking i found

1993 - Porno For Pyros headlined (Perry Farrell's side project band)
1996 - Black Grape headlined (Happy Monday's side project)
1998 - Page & Plant headlined

so looking at that it wouldnt totally surprise me if TCV did actually headline now

Honestly think Black Grape had top 10 albums and were really quite popular. Page & Plant are Page & Plant.

It was Daily Star that leaked Pearl Jam the other year, when no-one else had mentioned them in any form of media and they hadn't announced any European dates at all. Quite a coup that

And The Sun got U2 for Glastonbury before anyone this year

If TCV headlined instead of the Foo's man im going to be pissed.
That's a weird thing to say. What makes you think the Foos are even in contention to headline?

I'm fairly sure the Foos are taking a break and TCV are the band Dave will be 100% commited to until at least the end of 2010.

I don't see why TCV couldn't headline. Who gives a f*ck about chart positions, as a headliner they'll go down a treat, and are much more appropriate headliners than The Darkness were, as they appeal to a wider demographic (if you can lookme in the eye and say that a combination of Foo Fighters, QOTSA, and Led Zeppelin, doesn't appeal to the majority of Reading goers, you're not all there) As was proved this year, Grohl's appearance alone is enough to bring in the casuals. (The Grohl chants annoyed me though, as it felt to me like a lack of respect for the other two.)

Havent Foos just released a greatest hits (with new songs on it as well) and been on jools holland and other shows recently? Did they say they are going on break after that? Most bands lie anyway, like radiohead did last year. they said they wasnt touring or doing any other appearances

The Darkness were 1000x bigger than TCV. They are one of the biggest bands to come out of the 00's. They were huge at the time, sold out the Astoria without a record deal, had top 10 albums and singles, and sold out an arena tour. AND didn't do it on the back of having huge musicians in the band.  That's a prettybig deal. They deserved their slot, TCV should be put higher than 5th/6th until they maybe release another album, and maintain this popularity. If this was any other band there would be uproar about a band headlining a year after they first formed.

:P :P :P

They couldn't even fill their set! When they realised the were rushing through their set they played an unfinished song that just sort of stopped in the middle, would have made more sense to play their f*cking christmas song!. The Darkness were a lot of things, but deserving of a headline slot was not one of them.

Doesn't detract from the fact that they were an incredibly huge band at the time. Anything other than headlining would have been stupid.

TCV arent big enough to even play 2nd or 3rd. And certainly do not deserve it. Nor could they fill a headliner slot with one album. Yeah they may have a new album out by then, but that is the same amount of albums as Franz and Razorlight had and look how well received their sets were.

Woudl be a stupid headliner booking.

Come on have a word with yourself.

Is there not a little bit of difference between the technical ability between TCV and franz ferdinand/razorlight?

Nirvana have headlined - Foos have headlined, Zep would headline- QOTSA second healined. With another album under them as good as the first one they will have by far and away more right to headline than those two ever did!

Very good point! But it's fair to say Vieuphoria is highly against TCV headlining but not highly against them playing?
I want them to play if they headline im good with that if they are 4 or 5th i'm happy with that too.

I worry that i'm finding myself increasingly agreeing with you. Worrying times indeed. :P
