Deer Shed Festival
One day and night of the best in contemporary music and art set in beautiful North Yorkshire parkland on Saturday July 17th 2010.
Music
There are 12 main stage slots on the Saturday, from midday until 11pm. The one overarching objective for the success of this festival is booking the best of the best. It’s all about giving audiences access to great new music whatever the genre, so no fillers, no tribute bands, just a tantalizing line up that really will offer something for everyone.
We're off to a great start with The Wedding Present. Click here for updates on the Deer Shed music line up.

Kids
Kid’s entertainment will not be an afterthought, this is very much a family friendly festival. Instead, it will be an integral part of the day's programme with many of the artists performing and running workshops that the whole family can enjoy. And yes, we'll definitely have plenty of high chairs and baby changing. Click here for details of the Deer Shed's family friendly entertainment.
Tickets
Tickets will go on sale early in the New Year and adult tickets will cost £35 for the day inclusive of camping and parking. Kids tickets for under 16s will be £7.50 and under 6s will be FREE.
There is a booking fee of £2.50 per adult ticket, this is to cover PayPal charges and ticket postage.

We think this is great value for a concentrated day of top entertainment, we've lost count of how many times we've run away early from 3 day festivals.

The Deer Shed festival is a newcomer to the summer music and arts scene, but is already making waves as a truly family-friendly music festival. Set in beautiful landscaped parkland near Topcliffe, Thirsk it promises to offer live music fans of every age one day and night – (Saturday 17 July 2010) of the best in contemporary music and art.

Indie legends, The Wedding Present, have already signed up to headline what is shaping up to be a great quality alternative to the larger, corporate and more expensive festivals. For lead singer, David Gedge, he’s happy to be returning to his Yorkshire roots…

"Being a Yorkshireman myself, I'm thrilled to be supporting the first ever Deer Shed Festival. It's refreshing to find a music festival which embraces the fact that live music fans can be of any age and at any stage in their lives... and the organisers have really thought about that. Most of all, though, I'm just looking forward to playing for Wedding Present fans old and new alike, in some stunning Yorkshire countryside."

The festival was borne out of frustration by organisers, Kate and Oliver Webster-Jones, who tired of never being able to find a festival that catered for their love of music and their brood of three in equal measures.

“After spending a small fortune getting us all in, we ended up being either disappointed in the music line up or disappointed in the facilities and food for the kids. We hope by providing a super-concentrated version of the big festivals with dedicated kids activities and locally sourced fresh food, we’ll be able to offer quality and value; keeping everyone happy.”

The Deer Shed philosophy is such that even the youngest festival-goer gets as much out of it as their parents do. There’s a full schedule of activities, involving both musicians and artists, such as a giant doodle wall, treasure hunts and percussion making workshops. Adult ticket prices are set at a modest £35 (under 16s £7.50, under 6s FREE) and the on site locally sourced food and drink will be just as reasonably priced.

Two years on from what Kate and Oliver thought would always be just a pipe dream, their idea of a live music/child-friendly utopia fast looks like becoming a reality. Oliver is documenting the challenge every step of the way on his blog about the trials of organising your first festival. Young Rebel Set announced for Deershed Festival

Current darlings of the NME this seven piece from Stockon-on-tees have had a new genre created for them, graft rock. Weaving tales of dead-end jobs and broken relationships around anthemic songs that blend the band’s love of folk and punk, Young Rebel Set are conquering all in their path and are hotly tipped for 2010. Rachel in our office can't wait to meet them :)

I actually booked our hotel a couple of months ago as you can reserve on credit card without being charged and I'll hopefully sort out flights in the next month or so. Although I've never camped all the reviews I've read are favourable (aside from it being a bit crowded and there's always a big queue to get in on the Wednesday) and it's included in the ticket price which is a bonus!! You also get free travel in and out of Belgium included too, which when you consider that tickets were about 140 euros last year is still a complete bargain even with the crap exchange rate.
