I'll eat my fictional hat if they headline. On the strength of one album that couldn't reach the top 10, a tour where they played 02 academys and a surprise festival show that got some good reviews? surely that isn't enough to headline no matter who's in the band...

Is it possible that they might play some songs by QOTSA, Foo fighters and Led Zep? I know it's probably unlikely but it would be awesome and defnitely make their case for headlining stronger.

Kev1664 I complain because the festivals rarely pull anything from a band big enough who does not generally headline festivals. Bruce Springsteen headlining Glasto this year will be an example but instead r+l gets KOL, a band whos playing festivals whenever the moneys there. A band such as REM would be perfect I reckon, a band who has never played the fest before and are generally big enough with a large back catalogue. TCV are new so its hardly groundbreaking, they just haven't had a chance yet to play every fest they possibly can.

And leedsbrett why would they be getting a large amount of coverage? Theyd get the exact same amount as before, its hardly going to be 10 o'clock news stuff is it? The festivals announcement will go through the exact same channels as before and the only thing there might be will be shock because not everyone would have heard of the band.
I haven't even heard about this mass media coverage, I've seen them on Jonathan Ross and in a couple of mags thats it. And even with the media coverage they've had they still haven't done much with it in terms of album and single sales/airplay. Animal Collective have had a quite bit of coverage but they won't be anywhere near the top slots because they simply aren't big enough. You cant force the public to listen to and buy music and if they don't want take to them then they shouldn't be headlining the fest. The public will be going to the fest wanting to see a band that a large amount will listen/buy, not a band with a bit of a repuation because of their previous bands.

I've heard a few people saying Florence and the Machine might headline the nme stage. If that happens on the same night I reckon it would be embarassing. You'd have more people trying to ram into the nme stage and the surrounding area than on the main stage!!

That's also a very good point. Unless they just lengthen each track by double it's recorded length by having major jam sessions. Which would become extremely tedious.

Whoever was on about media coverage, i couldnt get away from Bruce Springsteen last year. Everyone was his number one fan all of a sudden. Jay-z also got the most media coverage i can ever remember. There are acts out there who are big enough but arent obvious. TCV are an obvious choice to play, and not big enough to headline.

Right as soon as word got out about these their tour dates sold out immediatly, I think that if they would upgraded the tour to arenas they would sell it out no problem, I think if they announced an arena tour on sale Friday, say Manc, Birm, London & Glasgow, by the time the weekend is over it would have sold out, maybe even come the end of Friday. The demand is there

Also haven't they already written more material and said they want to bring out a second album in 2010?

Reading always takes a gamble on new headliners, The Strokes, The Darkness, they wanted Arctic Monkeys to headline.

But I can't see all three nights being headling by Blink 182, Green Day and TCV.
And as I've been saying for ages, I can't see Green Day playing. I just think V will have threw the moon on a stick at them in terms of money plus how commercial they are, I can just see them doing V. And Reading will want to have an indie headliner as well. Who that is though, im not sure.

That was my thought if they do headline surely they're gonna mix it up and play some foo's, zep and qotsa mixed in with some TCV which would be kinda cool

That would be rather brilliant and I imagine Dave will wanna take Zep duties if they are willing to play some Zep or maybe it will be a massive suprise and Plant will make a guest appearance.....thats worth my ticket right there

Yeh cos they won't have enough of their own material for a headline set and, if they are headlining, the main reason is the reputation of foos, zep and qotsa. Also it would definitely please the casual fans if they played best of you, whole lotta love and no one knows.

It would be a very hard set to put together when you think of what fans would want to hear
Foo's                      QOTSA                               Zep
Everlong                 No one knows                    Immigrant Song
All my life                3's and 7's                        Stairway to heaven
Monkey Wrench        How to handle a rope        Whole lotta love

Just an idea........

You seem to have alot of faith in the R&L bookers. They've never let us down in terms of headliner before now have they?

I personally wouldn't be dissapointed if they did headline, they would be a f**king mile better than The Darkness or Razorlight were.

Stylishkids, I do understand where your coming from in your point. I totally agree with what your saying, thats why I said ealier in the thread my tip is for NME headliner. I think REM would be a brilliant coup. Generally the festival seems to pull an older act but normally from the festival pool. My point was that they could headline not they should headline.

I for one would hapily watch 1.5 hours of TCV even if it was new or unheard material. However a lot of people won't like that and that could be a downfall.

I do honestly think that they will have another album out and if they have struck a deal to headline I'm sure the deal would rely on that material. I think by march 30thish when the lineup is announced TCV and the festival will know where they will play. Maybe its a double edge style deal.ut then again what do I know LOL.

On another note.

I could see them doing QOTSA songs as Dave has worked with them before along with alain. But I think the Zep and Foo's material would be left alone out of respect for the other band members.

I could also see a lock up style mid afternoon TCV NME headliner thing, or TCV mid afternoon followed by Foo Fighters / QOTSA 1/2 to headline and subheadline.

However Imagine if they had the QOTSA, THE FOOS and TCV mega long 4 hour set with no breaks instead of a top three now that would be something else!

Im just not confident that they will be able to get Zep back together in its entirity

Well there was rumours that Zep would reform without Plant on the other thread I mentioned that instead of TCV it could be Foo's Qotsa or Zep playing which would be good but I think your idea just made me sex wee
