I'd love them to play and I thought they were great at Latitude, you don't have to jump about to be a powerful and memorable performer. Buuuuut I do reckon if you didn't know any of their songs you might not exactly get swept away with them based on a live show. I think they're a 'listen to albums first' band and then you can appreciate them live...
But don't get me wrong, I love 'em!

As usual from you a balanced and enlightened view. Kudos.

Sorry I have to disagree with that comment.
And I thought the slower songs such as Pioneer were brilliant live !
ooooooooooooh roll on the new album !!!!

Agree with that, convinced some mates to come see them with me a few years back & where as I loved them having listen to them previously, it was me mates first experience of them & they were pretty underwhelmed by the show which was a shame.
That was the only time I've seen them but didn't manage to see Julian Plenti at King Cross Scala a few weeks back & he was absolutly superb, hopefully he keeps that form up for the new Interpol album/shows.

I wasn't saying their slower songs were bad....what I mean is, in the songs which change from a fast pace to a slow one and vice versa in one swift movement.....live, they don't capture it. Not the same as I'd thought they could.

Not expecting a 1970's punk show, just a little bit of crowd interaction and look like your enjoying playing to thousands of fans. Maybe that's a little bit too much to ask?
i'm there to hear music not waffle.

metal poses on the PA !
But they are brilliant live , very eclectic , they keep everything to a minimum ( lighting included ) and
just play the songs perfectly.
If they play next year I will be there no matter who else is on !

I've had the same experience with the strokes.
people label them boring too due to lack of animation and crowd interaction but personally i love both bands for their music and that is what i am paying to see and so long as they play well and give us want we want int hat regards i am more than happy.
I'm not there to see posturing and inane waffle to the crowd i am there for the music foremost, sure some bands are great along with the posturing and crowd interaction and are funny and entertaining but more often than not it gets annoying and ott and not done for any other reason than to fill time and pad set lists out.
i like a bit of interaction but i'm never gonna slate a band who just get up there and do their thing as that is why i am really there, another thing i love in regards to The Strokes live is they never go in for all that fake encore bullshit where a band leaves the stage having not played their best/most well known songs only to return a few minutes later despite a lack of people calling for it and instead just standing about talking amongst themselves waiting for the inevitable return of the band.
The Strokes just play and when finished end with their cover of The Clash classic Clampdown. (just so happens to be my favourite clash song so i love it!)

I'm there for a performance not just going through the motions. If your of say Pink Floyds talent level, I'd be happy with music. A band like Interpol ain't up there so I expect more than just the tracks.

yes because a CD is exactly like a live performance of the music isn't it
basically you#re saying that unless a band is insanely talented you want them to fill the void left with inane chit chat and pointless posturing,....... wow awesome that's entertainment that is!
as i said i do like a bit of interaction but don't find a performance lacking if there is none, i'm definitely not going to base my opinion of a bands live performance based upon such things that's for sure.
you're just nitpicking and talking shite now so why i'm bothering to reply i don't know.

at the end of the day when a band can just be up there playing beautiful music like this i don't want it interrupted by greetings to the crowd or little anecdotes, it is their job to draw you in and let you get lost in the music and soak it all up.
anyone who listens to this band and is a fan surely cannot expect them to do anything other than that? why would you listen to this great band and then expect them to do anything other than get up there and create a great musical experience.
sure i've not seen them live as of yet and they may not deliver the goods, but at least i am not going into it expecting something i'm just not going to get.
imagine at the end of this song he just screams "Thank you Skegness you've been wonderful YEEEEEAH!"

Brilliant Post - Best of 2010
I will mail Interpols management and tell em to copy Maxim from the Prodigy.
Then we will get lots of
"Come on my Glastonbury Warriors ! " from Mr Banks as he runs round the stage !!!
