for me 'Down On The Upside' is their strongest album. But by no means their most popular... if you're looking for an intro i would just say A-Sides and work backword from there i guess. But Badmotofinger is probably their most acclaimed i think.

Have to agree. Badmotorfinger is one of my favourite albums, but upside I think is probably better across the board.

Cheers guys

Gonna give A-Sides a listen. I would imagine I would dig them as I like PJ, AIC and Nirvana. Will have to see though

A quick word of warning. Soundgarden aren't as "instant" as most of the other grunge bands. They use a lot of strange time signatures and tunings, which to me makes them brilliant but it might take you a few listens to get into them. As for albums, I'd suggest Superunknown :-)

I left my superunknown shirt in my PE locker at school :-(

This still saddens me, I'm not sure I'm ready for their comeback to unleash that pain again.

ok, i am a soundgarden oober geek (i will not prove it unless you want me to).

i completly agree with a previous poster when he stated that soundgarden are not a band that when you first listen to them you love them straight away. you need to nurture them to appreciate their beauty.

for a starter i would either advise superunknown (which is my favourite album of all time) or the last 2 thirds of  A-sides album. their earlier stuff is an aquired taste and only to be truelly apprecuated if you are a big fan. bad motor finger is a good album but is appreciated more by the rocky'er of music lovers.

if soundgarden played the best music festival in the world i would cream my pants. pearl jam are in hyde park the same weekend so it could happen as a few joint sg, temple of the dog & pj gigs may occur as they have done in the past. though matt cameron (pj's & sg's drummer) may become a tad tired from doing all of this.
