Anyone got any recommendations for festivals in Europe around August/September?  There seems to be plenty in June and July but I'm looking for something similar to Sonar/Dissonanze a little later in the year.

Take a look at http://hurricane.de/...pic.php?t=18217 . Apart from basically listing every singel German festival they cover all the major ones in Europe as well, listed by region.
From the top of my head: Highfield, Area 4, Haldern (that's probably the best one), Pukkelpop (#2), Sonnemondsterne, Lowlands, Sziget and Frequency.

Outlook Festival, first weekend in September 2010. This year it will be held near Pula in Croatia.
Outlook is the biggest dubstep festival in the ......world but also features a lot of drum'n'bass, reggae, hip hop and broken beats, including live bands and lots and lots of heavy, heavy bass!

In Portugal you have Festival Paredes de Coura in the beggining of August.
It's a very nice festival with very good atmosphere and in a beautiful place. For this year there aren't any band confirmed until now.

You have also the forum where you can ask anything

It's bad enough with UK festivals. I'm considering Sziget, Lowlands and Frequency. Possibly even Pukklepop.

I'm going to The Garden Festival and Sonar but was looking for something a little later in the year (about Bestival time), that one in Portugal above looks like it's set in a lovely area.

Yes it's a small festival (Paredes de Coura) but always have a very nice line-up. You have there two stages, one of them it's for the after hours and played there bands like Kap Bambino, Sebastian, Boyz Noize, Crystal Castles, Justice,etc... The place is very beautiful and I don't believe that there are many festival in places like that. The atmosphere in the camping is very very nice and the conditions are nice too. Other good thing of this festival is the ticket price, 60euros until may(normally) and after 70euros for the 4 days and you can also stay in the camping for one week with all the conditions.
