I really don't wanna get too much into the "for the money" debate but when bands I haven't seen reform and give me the chance I plan on taking it and IF they are doing it for money then they are welcome to mine as I haven't seen them before and would really like the chance to even if they are a little different to the band I first liked and listened to.

Wasn't Melvin quoted sometime last year saying that the headliners were already booked, and that he had approached them all at 2009's festival? That rules Soundgarden out completely, unless he was only discussing one of the stages.

wouldnt worry about it, they would play 3rd or 4th top at the very best.

3rd or 4th from top??? are u on crack? Theyr being heavily linked with headlining slots at Download & Coachella festivals and u think theyl be 4th down at Reading? jesus. Yeah granted Reading is a trend festival and they would probably not headline....but they wud at least headline the 2nd stage or 2nd up from the top on the main stage.....hopefully theyl headline Download anyway

where is it rumoured they might headine download? you really think under 25's who are the vas majority of festival goers know many soundgarden songs.
they wont headling download or reading, come back when the lineups get announced. they never headlined in there prime and there not going to now.

Andy Copping said on his twitter few weeks ago that he was still persuading a band to reform to headline Download. well Faith No More headlined Download last year and they were about the same size as Soundgarden back in the day.....true i bet the majority of under 25s could only name a couple of Soundgarden songs (prob Black Hole Sun and Rusty Cage), but again thats the same with FNM who i bet under 25s would have trouble naming anything other than 'Epic & Easy' yet they still headlined festivals throughout Europe last year
Also i dont think RATM, Pixies and FNM headlined in their prime....its the 'reform factor', and i doubt Soundgarden have reformed to accept '4th down slots' at festivals....when Matt Cameron is already earning a bundle withheadlining Fests with PJ at the Mo and Chris Cornell is more than financially secure

I don't believe Faith No More were headlining when they were in their prime, but they headlined Download and NME stage at Reading/Leeds last year. I could see Soundgarden doing something similar. I very much doubt they would be 3rd or 4th down.

Reckon they're more likely for Download anyhow, but dunno. Would definitely headline - 'this time' you're an absolute fool if you reckon they'd play 3rd or 4th.Wasn't Melvin quoted sometime last year saying that the headliners were already booked, and that he had approached them all at 2009's festival? They weren't that huge a band when they split up. Not so big that they could headline.
If it was me I thought they were a bit hit and miss when I saw them so I'd not bother.
I agree with thetime on the whole I don't bother with bands reforming.
There are exception of course. I'm going to see Reef and I can't wait.

I doubt they would headline the Main Stage, 2nd top or NME headliners. I would say they're slightly bigger than Faith No More but even when FNM headlined the NME last year they only half filled it.
#55
Posted 04 January 2010 - 11:52 AM
FNM were only half filled due to the fact that tickets sold out long before the band were even on the poster. You cant by tickets for a festival to see a band if you have no idea they are playing. Soundgarden are big enough to headline, should headline, and would headline excluding other circumstances.

but its all opinion.
i've said this before and i'll say it again:
bullshit. you don't know why they got back together, maybe they just like playing together. i'm betting they're not skint, cornell and cameron especially.

manners please.
even if they have 500 million in the bank, people want more and more money so the argument your giving about them being skint doesnt mean anything.
why do you think bands reform?
just giving my opinion, of course soundgarden could be doing the reunion because they love playing together and want to get back for the fans. But I can assure you they will be playing festival first to get as much money as possible rather than tour for there own fans. Now remind me how many tours did ratm do on there reunion? how many tours have fnm done on there reunion? doing it for the money nah dont be silly there doing it for there fans.

do bands not make money from tours then?
