well I resisted and resisted listening to this. I cant bear all the hype surrounding bands that are the so-called "next big thing" but last night I finally relented and downloaded the damn thing.

It's wonderful!

A shoe-in for glastonbury surely, but where to put them? I pray they dont get slung on the pyramid or other stage at 2pm. A late slot in the acoustic or at the park would be my preference but of course wont happen.

Any thoughts on the band/the slot they will play in?

(I appreciate I am miles behind with this)

They better be more impressive live than their unremarkable appearance at Camp Bestival this year. A well produced album does not necessarily a decent live band make.

I thought they were good at Field Day. I also resisted listening to the album until very recently, but it's excellent. Maybe they could do double-duty like a few bands have done in recent years - morning slot on the Pyramid and then a late night slot on the Park?

I saw them at the Cambridge Folk Fest this year and they were ace then. They're coming back around in March i think so will hopefully catch them again.

If im honest, the album deteriorates with repeated listens. Individually i really like each of the songs, but listen to the whole of the album and it loses something. The pattern of the songs just sounds to similar.

e.g.

1. quiet intro
2. start whimsical lyrics
3. pace builds
4. driving bass comes in
5. obligatory twinkly banjo bit
6. end

I DO like them, just cant listen to them too often.

I think they'd go down well on the Acoustic Stage. Definitely needs intimate surroundings!

Agreed - they sound best in a more intimate environment.  They played lasy year at the Departure Lounge in the Greenpeace Fields which was an ideal setting for the music

Acoustic tent would make the most sense but I think theyll be JPT or Other as theyre getting a lot of attention and will only be more popular by the time the festival rolls around. Tbh, I reckon they will play a couple of sets across the weekend.

Finally listened to it, really really impressed by it. I love what folk is becoming, though equally it seems odd that folk become grand. Winner of the 2010 Mercury prize? definitely nominated.
I'll try and catch them if they play, hopefully they can keep their charm live

I was also fully prepared to dislike this band but the album sucked me in, and I love it. They are touring in March next year, I've got tickets for Wolverhampton Wulfrun Hall on the 6th.

I'm glad to see I'm not the only one who has ended up liking this band after reluctantly listening to the album. I'd definitely be seeing them if they were at Glastonbury, they seem like they'd be good live...and they should really be on form for Glasto!

As we found with Fleet Foxes.  Equally some bands that are tremendous live never seem to be able to quite capture that excitement and edge in the studio.

After seeing them at The Park in 2008 I have seen them several times since and sincerely think they are actually one of the best live acts around today. Funnily enough I think the album loses something in its production, much better live. Look forward to seeing them in 2010 :P

Seen them twice this year, at Blissfields and Loopallu.

Prefered them on a small outdoor stage at Blissfields :P

saw them at the sweaty sweaty departure lounge this year, only caught them 'cos they were on before laura marling, but personally I find them to be better live than they are on record

They were incredible when I saw them in Bristol, I just don't think they worked that well on the Pyramid. I loved the Mumford album for the first 10 listens or so but I agree that it gets a bit boring quite quickly. Would still go and see them in the acoustic tent or the park though, do they manage to produce that raw energy from the album live?

Couldn't disagree more, met him outside Nothampton Roadmender with my 12 year old son, he came across as a great chap, dragged all the band out from drinking/changing to have photos taken, which they all did graciously and with a sense of humour. Made a young lads evening...

I'd agree, much better live than on record, and much better on a smaller stage.

This is great to hear.

Only thing I would say is what with their current popularity I cant see them being an a stage any smaller than the JP tent, and I have to say I am not a fan of that place.

Hopefully there will be a couple of "secret" gigs too in smaller places, and hopefully I manage to find out about them and am not lying in a drunken stupor somewhere!
