Very much considered going last year, definitely looking more into this. Wizzair fly from quite a lot of places and have better flight days then ryanair.

Opener is not as good and big as Roskilde is, but much cheaper and sunshine guaranteed

What's the atmosphere like? Safe surroundings but enough freedom to party all night? what about drink prices?

I had an amazing time at Open'er last year. Best festival I've been to by a long way. Everyone's really friendly and up for a good time - not like reading and leeds where about 90% of the crowd seem to go out of their way to be total arseholes. And it's all about hitting the dance hangar after the bands finish. Last year we somehow ended up attempting breakdancing with a guy in a wheelchair, a girl dressed as a fox and a rubber chicken at 7am.

Beers were 6 zloty (about £1.20) in the festival.

You can make a proper holiday out of it as well. We spent 3 days in Gdansk before the festival for £8 a night at a hostel. There also a beach in Sopot which is about 20 mins train journey from the festival (it should have been £2.50 but no-one every checked our tickets so we never paid), and the bands don't start till 5pm, so you can do beach all day, festival all night. The whole trip (flights, 3 days in Gdansk, 4 days at the festival, food, drinks) cost us about £320 each.

i went to open'er this year but didnt enjoy it, i thought there was zero atmosphere, watered down heineken is all they serve making you piss every five minutes, you cant take your own alcohol in, the food was terrible and if your plae skinned like me your gonna get seriously burnt with little to no shelter from the baking sun. Its cheap tho and visits to krakow and gdansk are a must.

how easy was it travelling from gdansk to gdynia where the fest is?
i am definitely thinking of going to this but i would like to get a wee idea of the ease of travel before hand!
also, did you camp at the fest or stay in hotel/b&b? i would prefer to stay in a hotel near the fest but am worried about getting to and from it.
after doing primavera in barca last year i am not too worried about the sunshine. like moz i am pale skinned, snow white has a tan in comparison :P , but used factor 40 suncream and carried a wee bit with me and all was fine. especially when bands dont start till later.
do they only sell beer at the fest? i do love beer, but hope it isnt too watered like moz said. i may have to have a few before heading down to it if that is the case!
cheers for any help all :P

If I remember correctly from Gdansk to Gdynia it was about 20 minutes on the train, this wont cost much, i came from krakow, 8 hours with a very bad hangover, not recommended. I went into Gydnia for one of the afternoons, very nice city, i would recommend staying in a hotel as theres not much to do during the day at the fest and you'll have much more drinking options.

20mins is cool. yeah i would defo need to stay in a hotel. i am getting too old for hangovers! :P
and defo think drinking before going in may be a good option, if i can then find my way to the fest! haha.
8 hours with a hangover, that sounds like torture, or a day in work!
was it easy to get into the city from the fest then? so if i stay there i am not going to spend all my time lost or trying to travel! there are just so many things that can go wrong where booze, foreign cities and festivals are concerned! i could miss the whole thing!

Hey. It is VERY VERY easy to get both ways, from festival area to the city and return :P . There ale buses every 5 minutes from train station in Gdynia (city centre) to Babie Doły (now it's Kosakowo, venuea where the festival is) and about 1,5h before first concerts there are one bus after another, so it is no problem to get there :P

Because Heineken is general sponsor (Heineken Open'er Festival :P ), there are lots of beer places on fest side. It's also VERY cheap for foreigners, about 3EUR.

If you have any other question, just ask :P

Let's hope it's got a bit of meat to it this time, never understand why organisers don't announce things earlier, surely getting all the tickets sold is the priority.

Will be keeping an eye on this one though, went to rock werchter last year so maybe time for a change.

I've already bought my ticket.

Hope for amazing stuff just like in 2009

You know, you aren't allowed to bring alcohol to the campingsite :P . But it's not a problem, everyone will "smuggle" it :P .
