really tame festival compared to all the British and Irish ones I've been at - would not go again in a million years

Yes, Pinkpop is very tame: it's truly a pop festival and the availability of day tickets doesn't help much either. Its alternative sibling in NL is Lowlands.

I've never been but from what I've heard Pinkpop isn't well-known for its nightlife. It has great lineups in good years though.

bands finish before 12 and then all there is is a disco/c;ub in a big tent near the camping area

the stages are fekin miles form the camping areas as well btw

and this lark of selling only a cup of beer at a time - give me a break

having said that - really enjoyed Springsteen ( or springlyfield as our cabbie called him ! ) , elbow , noisettes and madness on the music side

also the camp site doesnt open the night before the festival - bizarre

Latest rumours that are quite likely to be appearing apparently:

Fun Lovin Criminals
Faith No More
Florence and the Machine
Gossip
Triggerfinger

Also are they in talks with Weezer, Green Day and Editors.

Wolfmother were officially confirmed the other day too.

is there a direct source for rumours, only thing i've been able to find was festivalnoise.be but fnm would have me taking the plunge, wouldn't mind people who've been before clarifying the situation with smoking a bit of herb. Have heard conflicting reports of it being tolerated and there being a zero tolerance policy.

i'm sure roddy said something on his twitter saying they enjoyed it so much they're coming back. Plus the news of them being at coachella doesn't seem to be causing that big a fuss in the states.

www.rockblog.nl is a fairly reliable one it seems. Also www.graz.nl has a great messageboard for discussions (both in dutch though)

Concerning the smoking situation - they're 'zero tolerance' as in, when they find it when you go into the festivalsite (not the campsite) they'll take it off you immediately and probably get you kicked out. Having said that, there's hardly any area in both camp and festivalsite that you cant get a sniff off it, so hiding an eighth or summit like that in your boots or wallet etc and your sorted.

NOT an issue at all so, been going for last 5 years, always had some on me. You just don't wanna walk up to security with a spliff on your lips or skin up on the first row - you get the general jist.

I'm slightly biased as I used to live 15 mins away from the festivalsite and have been attending consistently since 2005. But I'll do my best to give an objective opinion.

There are 4 campsites, A,B,C and D. A being directly across the road from the festivalsite entrance and B being about 20 minutes walking distance. C and D I'm unaware of, but should be 30 mins+ walking distance, as it's all located in an urban area.

Overall feel of the festival has always been great in my opinion and I have attended festivals in Belgium and elsewhere in Holland before.

It's not a 'mental' festival - campsite have big party tents until 3-4am open which can hold around 4000 people, on the first two nights. Not much going on officially on the final night, but this is usually when odd parties arise and the campsite goers themselves provide the banging music and funky vibe.

Beers are alright price, about 2,20 in sterling for a 0,3l. You can get cooled crates at stands just outside the campsite, and it's alright to take in any alcohol onto the campsite, as long as its not in glass and within reason (they say a crate a head, but i've taken in more on my own).
Smoke wise its all cool - you don't want to walk up to security with a big fat doobie hanging out of your mouth, but thats fairly self explanatory. Also, if you get searched when entering and you have drugs on ya, they'll take it off ya, and maybe kick you out - but they don't search well, so somewhere in your socks, or even wallett should be fine.

Crowd don't go as crazy as in the UK, i can say this from personal experience, but I quite like this at a festival as i dont really feel like getting battered at 3 in the afternoon.

@gingerevans: if you wanna know specific stuff, please feel free to pm me :P
