Ive just had a look, they also supported Foo Fighters in Manchester the same year.

Hmm yeah, last tour they only did club venues too, I agree I can't really see them being a headliner at Reading and Leeds anymore but if the options are slim then I don't think too many people would think that they would be a weak headliner.

But isnt a band who hasnt headlined festivals or even big gigs in a long time, and tour clubs rather than arenas, pretty much the definition of a weak headliner?
I love The Strokes, but theyd be a very weak headliner.

I'd say a band who haven't played festivals in 4 years would be a very good catch, and they will probably still get a nuber one album, still sell out a tour and they have apeared on a lot of end of decade best of lists. I don't think they will headline, but they certainly could get away with it, there is a much stronger argument for them headlining than a lot of bands talked about.

Whom exactly?
I mean the serious rumours ive heard are Greenday, AC/DC, Foo Fighters, R.E.M, Muse. Obviously they are all far bigger than The Strokes, so i guess im missing someone.

EDIT
Kasabian. Got it. :P

My Chemical Romance, The Cure, Jay Z, Daft Punk - I'm not saying they're bigger than those bands, but you could say they are more likely to and they are definatley more popular with the current R&L audience than those bands. And whilst The Strokes are no longer as popular as they once were, they are more popular than say Franz or Razorlight were.

I dont think The Strokes would be a stronger headliner than Daft punk or Jay Z. I also dont think ther is any way MCR or The Cure will headline.
I dont know if a agree with the Franz or Razorlight thing either. I understand alot of people have been awaiting The Strokes return, but the point is, A LOT of the people who go to R&L, i dont want to sound sexist, but mainly all the females who are 16-18, and alot of their boyfriends, arent. They know whats out. Franz and Razorlight were big at that time and the year leading upto it. At the minute, i think if you ask a large selection of the R&L audience, a lot of them will have lost interest in The Strokes because its not what they hear. Maybe idont give the R&L audience enough credit. Maybe you give them too much, Either way that's my opinion!

More importantly, Merry Christmas!

I would say that The Strokes could headline R&L over other fests because they have strong links to the fest. In 2001 they were promoted to the Main Stage because of the hype around them, they've only played once since when they headlined in 02 but there is a love affair between the festival and the band. I'm not fussed wetherv they play or not because I'll be seeing them at Rockness but they are a decent band and I still think they could headline.

Daft Park are regarded as one of the very best live acts in the world, they would be a huge booking. i love the strokes, but to say they were would be a stronger headliner is daft.

Very true, If they managerd to book Daft Punk (which they won't) it would be a huge step forward for the festival and it would be a massive draw.
