Been confirmed today that they're headlining IOW in 2010.
http://www.nme.com/n...e-strokes/48620
So this shows they're definitely playing shows together next year. What do people reckon? More or less likely to play R/L as a result? And as they're headlining IOW, do you reckon they're likely to demand headlining status at R/L as well? There are examples of bands headlining IOW who have then played second from top at R/L (Kaiser Chiefs and The Prodigy from recent years I believe,) but maybe with the lack of potential headliners this year they'll be bumped up to a headline slot.

I cant see them headlining r/l, everyone seems to be worried about the headliners for next year.

Yeah to be honest i thought The Strokes would play 2nd down on the main stage but i would still love to see them regardless. I reckon if they play any other festival they will be 2nd down on the main stage. Razorlight headlined Isle Of Wight last year and played 2nd down at V Festival and T In The Park last year. I'm not sure which other festival they will play could be any of them really lol

They aren't asd big as thery were last time they headlined but thats not o say they won't. If they do play but don't headline it'd be interesting to see who they would play below.

Would definitely be interesting!! I know they have been away for so long but they have got a fantastic back catalogue haven't they so you never know they might just surprise everyone and be a bloody amazing headliner. We shall see i guess

If they were to play below one of the rumoured bands, Kasabian would be my guess, but I wouldn't be too happy about it. Can't stand Kasabian. The bloke's voice gets on my nerves, and the music is nothing to write home about.
Another potential headliner down though, and AC/DC seem more likely for Download according to some rumblings I've heard. Will be interesting to see what R/L pull off and whether it will mean sacrificing their precious "UK/English exclusivity" for larger bands.
Would be nice for them to pull one out of the blue like REM, Rolling Stones, Beastie Boys etc. But I reckon it will be slightly less impressive.

This has to increase their chances, although yeah they'll play 2nd from top.

I agree, they need to pull something special out the bag. Someone like Beastie Boys or Guns n Roses (even though it's not really GnR

I really hope The Strokes play, one of the few bands Ive not seen live that I'm desperate to.

I think this rule's them out of headlinig though, I can't remember a band headlining both festivals. This makes me think they will play below Kasabian.
And they have Blondie playing beneath them at IOW, I would kill for that at Leeds.

Has any band that has ever headlined IOW then played top or second at Reading or Leeds before? Could be they chose to play this and headlines rather then play lower down at other festival, apart from maybe glastonbury

I don't think a band has headlined both (reading and Leeds like to have English exclusives at the least) but Prodigy headlined last year and then played second at leeds, so a simular thing could happen with The Strokes.

Hmmm interesting. Would love them to play.
Cannot see them playing second fiddle to anyone though really. Certainly not Kasabian. Are they really considered likely headliners? 3 solid albums but they don't really have the 'wow factor' for a headline slot. Borefest each time I've seen them. Maybe they're just not my cuppa.
This is good news for a 2010 Strokey tour at least, though.

No they didn't Razorlight played 2nd at IOW under Stereophonics who headlined, Stereophonics had played 2nd at V festival and TITP the year before though,n that might be where you're confused
I think The Strokes are definatlyb playing Reading and Leeds now. Maybe even headline, depends on whos avaliable

i think you are right, although a massive band (is this it has been mentioned on every best album of the decade poll i've read as number 1) they have been away for quite a long time and will want to get themselves in everyones face. some people -the sex on fire crowd- will be listening to their stuff for the first time so they could sell a shed load of records off the back of a bunch of festival appearances.

Exactly, they need to get out and prove they're the biggest band out there with bands like KOL and the killers taking there mantle.
