where did they do that then?

I think it was a BBC radio interview... have to admit I didn't hear it live myself but it was commented on here.

Are they releasing any new material?  As much as I love them, the last time I saw them it felt a bit too samey.

Oh my god what an atmosphere. Really hope they confirm for Glastonbury-does seem they are doing every other festival going. That could be a good or bad thing

they should either call it a day for good and stop living off past glories (they were once an important band producing new and exciting music!) or start making an effort to write some new tunes, the last decent one they came up with was the box and that must be nearly fifteen years ago ffs! seems to be all about the cash these days for the hartnolls so they've a cheek for claiming glasto is too commercial and after seeing them last year i wouldn't even bother checking them out again even if they do play, sure they still have some classics but a lot of their back catalogue just hasn't stood the test of time and some of its just plain embarrassing plinky plonky semi ambient bollocks and as for that cheesey belinda carlisle nonsense the less said the better! i can think of plenty of dance acts who deserve the slot more than orbital, bands that are still recording new and progressive music, richie hawtin is taking his plastikman live show back on the road again and would be an inspired choice for one of the big stages, real techno instead of another one of orbitals tired sets!

The Orbital performance of 2004 was the highlight of my first Glastonbury. The perfect end to the perfect weekend :P

This is true of a lot of acts, too many really, especially on the Pyramid.

So basically they want to play Glasto but haven't been invited yet, and doubtfully will because most of the big names have already been lined up.

*YAWN*

What a load of tiresome bullshit. Anyone suggesting that the last decent song Orbital released was 'The Box' is frankly taking the piss...

Oh but of course - you're a REAL techno fan aren't you?  :P

Ignoring for the moment that Orbital aren't actually a techno act, but a band - it's enormously enjoyable to see the infantile rage that ludicrous purists like you fly into when those Belinda Carlisle samples appear - as I understand it they've kept them as a staple of the live set not only for their huge popularity, but also because it reeeeeeally pisses off people like you. I couldn't agree with them more frankly.

As to the quality of their recent live shows...well, Orbital don't need me blowing smoke up their backsides - how about checking out who DJ Magazine awarded 'Best Live Act of 2009'?

Also you seem to have missed the irony of banging on about new and progressive dance acts, and then suggesting the increasingly irrelevent and boring Ritchie Hawtin play 'one of the big stages' at Glastonbury: a dance pioneer who these days sounds almost exactly the same as he did in his heyday and who in his more reflective moments could very easily be accused of making 'plinky plonky semi ambient bollocks' (Pakard anyone?).

whats with the *YAWN*? did you just listen to an orbital bootleg from last years shows?  :P   tbh i may have been overly kind saying the box was the last good track they've produced, i dont really rate it that highly at all but compared to whats came since it sounds like a work of f**kin genius! and yes i am a REAL techno fan, infact im  a fan of REAL music in general although going by your love of the belinda carlisle rubbish you obviously prefer your music to have a novelty/gimicky/cheesey sample element to it but each to their own, now that i think about it you're the first person i've ever heard publicly admit to liking it, your names not paul/phil/belinda by any chance??  :P  but hey if dj magazine say they're the best live act of the year who am i to argue, although i seen pissed up buskers put on better shows last year. you may not be a fan of hawtin but to say he sounds exactly the same as his 'heyday' (whenever that was??) is one of the most ill informed comments i've ever read here, if you want to hear 'exactly the same' keep going to orbital shows cos they're as samey as you'll ever get.  hawtins sound and styles vary with every release but its probably too subtle/intricate/complex for your ears and i think you'll find he still packs out clubs around the world every night of the week and still manages to release fresh critically acclaimed material on a regular basis so obviously not that boring or irrelevant whereas snorbital have done nothing new in years, nobody outside the uk gives a shit about them and their next release is another compilation i believe (presumably consisting mostly of tracks from the first two albums because lets face it it was all downhill from there), way to go lads keep milking that legacy till its been totally done to death! you'd have thought after all those years off they'd have managed to find a bit of inspiration for something new somewhere along the line, its not like any of it was used up with that longrange project, but hey so long as people are still prepared to give them their cash for doing nothing new they'll keep taking it. i really hope the eavis's have taken offence to the comments made last year about glasto being too commercial and never have them back again, its no more than they deserve. i'll always have happy memories of their '94 glasto appearance but every time i've seen them since the disappointment has just grown and grown to the point where i wont waste my time with them again.

I can't be bothered forming anything like a considered reply to this bitter, bile filled and incredibly contradictory drivel.

Here's a suggestion : perhaps if you don't like Orbital (and lets face it - you don't really like anything they've ever done bar two records) you might try and find another topic devoted to this real music stuff you rate so highly?

Perhaps start a your own thread entitled 'REAL music!!!' so you and your fellow musical purists can reassure each other of the 'subtle/intricate/complex' nature of the stuff the rest of us are just to undemanding to appreciate. It'll be fun! Like masturbating!
