there must be some big thinking going on in the Hartnoll camp as to what to do next year and i would have thought that G10 must be high on their 'to-do' list
anyone from Loopz got any info?

Went on loopz the other day and no mention of glasto on that forum. Mind its a pretty slow forum.
They have to play though.

Keeping fingers crossed I know who I'll be watching on the second stage instead of U2!!!
Dont know what I would do if there is a repeat of the Muse clash of 04!

I would love Orbital to play. Missed the chance to see then in Manchester so for them to confirm I would be over the moon! Great music. So moving and beautiful

Around this time last year that they were announced for The Big Chill. & hence that they were reforming. So pen could be put to paper soon/now, alas IIRR in 2004 their presence wasn't worked out until very late, something like May.
They are not, for the record, entitled to play opposite U2.

I remember bumping into you at stupid o'clock somewhere on the off chance they were a surptise act somewhere this year

Whereas Panic at the Disco were?!?
Orbital'd crowd the place out mate. Again.
First time was at T in the Park where they were 2nd top on what is T's 3rd stage. The 2nd time(last year)they headlined the 2nd stage at Rockness, remembering that Rockness's mainstage is headlined by acts that would headline the Other Stage(The Prodigy).
To me, Glastonbury being the top dog of UK festivals(if not the world)it should easily be able to match or even better the likes of Rockness?

Orbital are Glasto legends and are well big enough to headline the Other...........
Any other point of view is utter rubbish!

Am fairly sure that they were reported - by someone here at least - as slagging off Glastonbury last year.
It was about the same time they were reforming to play far more commercial events - in terms of fees they would receive.
I did really enjoy their first final gig at Glastonbury 2004, but I'm not sure I'm that bothered about their subsequent final gigs. Maybe when they do their last final gig, I'll regret missing it.

They definately came out said Glasto was too commercial. I saw them at Brighton this year, and they were great, although I think they might need some new material, it's all getting a bit same-old, same-old - watched them at Glasto on the Other Stage too many times now. Although most of them were the DVD at home obviously.

I'd take the 'Glasto slag-off' stuff with a pinch of salt.
Whatever the Orbital boys did say, I'm sure it probably had a lot to do with feeling slightly awkward that having effectively said "fairwell" at Glasto in 2004 (and yes, I know that a couple of gigs followed this), they would've be back a mere 5 years later had they confirmed for 2009. They've never hidden their love for the festival and Mr Eavis has always asked them back.
Not sure why anyone would suggest they couldn't fill a headline slot - they've headlined the Other stage twice, the Jazz stage once (and drew a crowd only rivalled by Rolf at this years festival, emptying fields for miles around) and easily took on the second-to-top billing on the Pyramid stage Saturday night in '95 (and scared the living poo out of the about-to-headline Pulp if Jarvis' comments are to be believed!)
I just saw them (twice) at Manchester Academy this year and they were on ROCKING form - lots of improvisation to the material and re-worked songs galore (Out There Somewhere?, Crime, THE MOBIUS!).
Sure there are a couple of tunes that could probably be dropped for over familiarity, but a festival crowd wants the 'hits' anyway...

Put simply in recent years, at other festivals they don't headline. Just thought at Glastonbury it would be the same, obviously incorrect though as people on here seem to hold them in far higher standing than the rest of the UK.First time was at T in the Park where they were 2nd top on what is T's 3rd stage. saw them at brixton and it was amazing! Prolly my fave dance act, would be pissed if they were clashing with muse though! That would be worse than blur and prodigy

And what with their newfound comeback status and what will surely be stiff competition at Glastos 40th year, they may very well not. However they have and they could.
Personally, I'd quite enjoy seeing them headline in one of the bigger tents (Peel stage?) as Mr Eavis ALWAYS seems to turn down the volume for dance acts outside. However the crowd would doubtless be waaaaaay beyond anything that they could cope with.
