Hey guys,
I'm a university product design student doing a project on the problems with transport at festivals (particularly aimed at the initial arrival, when having to carry everything from car park to campsite). For this, I have decided to focus on the family campers, who may also have children with them, and see what kind of issues they face. It would be great if I could ask some of you a number of questions, to get an idea of the kind of things you take with you to festivals, the troubles you have carrying them in, etc.
Any help will be greatly appreciated!
Cheers
Joe

Just so you know, Reading actively discourages young children and doesn't provide a family camping area. Given the trouble that can kick off in the camping areas you'd have to be mad to want to bring them.

You'd be better off asking this on the Glastonbury sub forum.  Having said that, I take kids to festivals (inc Reading - though we'd not choose to camp there).  One of the problems with taking little kids is that they need as much stuff as an adult, but usually can't carry much. Also, with kids, it is often much easier if you have a family sized tent.  And family sized tents are heavy.  First time we went to Glastonbury, we travelled v light.  It rained, the kids ran out of warm clothes & the small ligghtweight  tents leaked.  Now we take a large (& v waterproof tent) & plenty of warm clothes / blankets etc. Works much better but we tend to camp as near the car as possible & buy all our food onsite.  It is still a pain to haul all our stuff to the campsite but doable.

If I had kids I wouldn't take them to Leeds Festival...no way.  I've attended the festival every year since the year dot but I'd point blank refuse to take them.  It just isn't safe at all.

Not to mention the sound damage to hearing.

Lattitude sounds like the perfect festival to takes Kids to and glastonbury but just make they are camped in family bit because there is still drugs etc.

But R/L is ridiculous to even consider taking Kids to only reading these forums will explain that.

There is absolutely no problem at all in taking kids to Reading.

White campsite (and campervans) isn't manic and fine with children.  Just take the usual precautions you would take with crowds and kids when you go into the arena.  I have always found the staff superb and helpful especially on the gate.

My son is 9 years old and this year will be his 6th Reading Festival.  We go to a lot of festivals every year and my son always includes Reading in his top three.
