Ahhh, so it's the next time I'll see them they'll be that good. That explains why they weren't that good when I did see them. :P :P

When and where did you see them?

I'm not even a massive fan of metal and their performance was only topped by Blur this year.

ummm .... can't actually remember, but I guess it was Reading one time of the thousands of times they've played there.

But if Blur is the benchmark, no wonder. :P

I've seen U2 and Stones many many times, but Metallica are in a league above in terms of live performances - absolutely no question.

I'd love to see them at Glastonbury but I don't think Mr. Eavis is brave enough :-)

Seen them at Reading 2008. I didn't like it. They put on a great show, but I don't like their music one bit. So I left.

I think we'd be talking Rolling Stones or Paul McCartney.

Certainly they have more longevity and have sold more albums, tickets, singles etc.

But I don't think you could say there is a contemporary band that have formed since U2 formed who are bigger than U2 or have more global / Uk appeal etc.

I've seen Metallica three or four times, from a great performance at Monsters of Rock in 1991, up until the first Download where they played the tent.

They haven't in my mind made a classic album since Masters of Puppets.  Something reflected in most of their set lists, too.
