If they do a greatest hits set and build up to WTSHNN, then flood the lights on like they used to - that could be the highpoint of the weekend.

Bono's a cock.
I just hope he plans on offsetting his carbon footprint for this little jolly to/from the states.
I won't be seeing them.
Struggling to think of anything decent they've released in the last 10 years.

Well I think that U2 is an excellent choice as it means I can certainly rule out the Friday night headliner. What's more they are an incredibly popular band that will attract a very large crowd to the Pyramid stage, which means more space over in Trash City/Shangri La/anywhere else but the Pyramid.
Well done Eavis, now bring on Muse and Coldplay. May as well go for the bland middle of the road hat-trick on the Pyramid.

Yokel Again, on Nov 23 2009, 11:53 AM, said:It's U2 at Glasto, not a U2 gig. It could be brilliant. Seen them a few times and always very good, but the Stadium gigs tended to be full of people who 'just had to see U2 once in my life' rather than music fans, or people who ACTUALLY like them. Hopefully Bono won't be TOO over the top, as this is the main point that grates with most.
Too over the top, this is Bono we're talking about - I will go and see them though.

I may just let my ticket expire as I hate U2 and their fans. There is no way I can avoid them.
Well please cancel your ticket then, and let someone who has yet to get a ticket have it instead. After all, such narrow minded, ignorant shit-spreaders like you probably don't belong at Glastonbury. Good bye. You won't be missed.
Arsehead.
Wooderson - I haven't really heard any of their stuff after Discotheque. Recommend me some newer stuff and I'll have a listen. I have 7 months...

Try these, I think all these are post Pop:
Electrical Storm
Beautiful Day
Stuck In A Moment You Can't Get Out Of
Walk On
Kite (bar the last verse, which I *wish* they'd rewrite)
Sometimes You Can't Make It On Your Own
Fast Cars

Don't think it will be worth standing around for a couple of hours listening to the crap stuff and looking at flags just to hear 1 or 2 great songs.
Well, this is the setlist from the night I saw them last summer...plenty of old classics (and the unforgettable fire....simply magnificent!)....I think the glasto set will have more than enough to keep fans of the old stuff happy...
Breathe
No Line on the Horizon
Get On Your Boots
Magnificent
Beautiful Day
Elevation
Stuck in a Moment That You Can't Get Out Of
Desire (Bono and the Edge acoustic)
The Auld Triangle
One
Until the End of the World
Unforgettable Fire
City of Blinding Lights
Vertigo
I'll Go Crazy If I Don't Go Crazy Tonight
Sunday Bloody Sunday
Pride (In the Name of Love)
MLK
Walk On
Where the Streets Have No Name
Bad
---
Ultraviolet
With or Without You
Moment of Surrender

At last a headliner I don't want to see. I can visit Shangri-la early next year without worrying about what I'm missing out on.

Did you hear the Pop album? It's really good. "If you wear that velvet dress" for example is bliss.
After Pop though the following 5 tunes really toast my marshmallow bruv:
Kite (a glorious tune)
In A Little While (one of their best ever songs - no question)
Sometimes you can't make it on your own (an acoustic version knocking around that is just gorgeous)
Breathe (best song on the latest record)
I'll go crazy if I don't go crazy tonight (remix version on the current tour is the biz)

...Pretty much all of All That You Can't Leave Behind is good...
The singles have been mentioned here in the thread (Elevation, Walk On, Stuck in a moment, Beautiful Day)...personally I prefer In a little While, Wild Honey and The ground Beneath Her Feet if I was to pick 3...it's easy to write off U2's recent output, some of it is patchy, but there's always a few good ones in there and that tends to be all they wheel out live.
