Hey, this'll be my first year at glastonbury, and i'm looking forward to seeing these 2 bands.

I know Animal Collective played last year, and Crystal Castles the year before

Anyone know if they'll play 2010

Cheers
:P

I think Animal Collective might be taking a bit of a break from touring soon so I doubt they will, although I hope I'm proved wrong. Really looking forward to the "Fall Be Kind" EP in about a weeks time. As for Crystal Castles, I haven't got a clue

the chances of animal collective playing are very unlikely indeed. you'll have more luck with crystal castles

Its November 2009...the line up...as we all know...doesnt get released until June 2010!

Its a long wait but you will know then.

Try their fan website...more chance there maybe?

start with the latest, 'merriweather post pavillion', it's the most 'accessible' and some would argue their best. strawberry jam is similar, sung tongs is also great. those three are on spotify

Yeah, I'd have to agree with the above post. MPP is the best pplace to start but you'll find that each album is very different. MPP is very much mainly influenced by Panda Bear whereas Strawberry Jam is more Avey Tare's record. The "Water Curses" EP bridges the gap between the albums quite well though. I can't really recommend a band any more than these though, they're up there with Radiohead in terms of creativity in my opinion

AC were ace this year headlining the Park. Doubt they'll be back in 2010 though. Crystal Castles are mor likely although wasn't the plug pulled on their set in 2007? Might not be back so soon...

they're way above radiohead in terms of creativity in my opinion. and i love radiohead. i can honestly say that i think animal collective are one of, if not the greatest band of our time.

1. strawberry jam
2. water curses
3. feels
4. sung tongs
5. MPP
6. after that you'll love them enough to go through the rest of their stuff at your own pace. i also recommend getting their new 'fall be kind EP' when it drops next week; sounding fantastic.

i wouldn't be surprised to panda bear at glasto next year, i think he may be working on new solo material at present. animal collective at glasto for me, was the most i' have ever enjoyed music, ever. and my friends who didn;t like them before i dragged them to it say the same.

god i love them  :P  :P  :P

I wouldn't disagree with calling them more creative especially when you consider there musical output over the course of one decade in comparison with other bands of our time.

Just out of interest (and I know its not Animal Collective) where would you put Person Pitch on your list? It would probably top mine but even that can change from one week to the next

hard to  say i guess. maybe top? 2nd? the new EP is sounding fantastic. really sounding up with their best stuff.

i think thats the thing about AC, its hard to judge their music on creativity. its all very creative. some things just work better than others. do you not think? i can't explain why my favourite stuff is my favourite. it just is. and the new stuff sounds like that :P

really do think theres a good chance of panda bear playing next year. after the reception AC got. that show could easily have been other stage headlining and they would have captivated the crowd just the same.

As has been said Animal Collective are pretty unlikely to be back again.

In response to other points, imo their top three albums are Feels, Danse Manatee and Strawberry Jam for Fireworks alone

Yeah I totally agree. I find it really hard to try to get across to people why they should listen to them because you get something different from each album. I think the measure of a good band is how they can alter your mood and, in Animal Collective's case, even the same album, say "Merriweather", can make you feel so many different things depending on how hard you listen. I personally think it's those layers that make their music so special.

I'd love to see Panda Bear but I do wonder how his stuff would come across in a live setting. For me "Person Pitch" is the best "headphones album" I've ever come across, but it's not something I'd choose to put on in a room full of people

BUMP !

for two reasons..

1) the new AC ep just came out and it's bloody brilliant, pitchfork (i know, i know) gave the track 'what would I want? sky', a perfect 10/10, and that doesn't happen often.

2) panda bear is playing primavera in may, so he is around this summer, looking more likely for glastonbury

Couldn't agree more, the ep is brilliant and yet another step forward, in particular "what would I want? sky". I'm sure I remember them playing it live this year and being quite excited by it.

I don't really get the whole anti pitchfork thing by the way, I find their reviews so much more helpful than any UK magazine or site (apart from maybe "Drowned in Sound"). There's quite a good interview with Panda Bear linked on Pitchfork at the moment where he talks about his new album. He comes across as quite modest and seems to indicate that the new stuff is a departure from "Person Pitch" which isn't really a surprise considering his reluctance to settle on one sound.
