a one off get together is hardly going to interfeer with any solo efforts taking place from any of the 4 members.
It will, because Carl could be publicising his solo stuff rather than the libertines.

An act would only do that sort of thing if they had no belief in their solo stuff.

Dunno, coxon seems quite happy with his solo stuff and albarn as well, but it didn't stop them getting together for a few dates last year.  Page/Plant, a similar story. It just doesn't seem that clear cut to me.

Coxon has had his stab at solo-ism, and it's not gone anywhere much. So he wasn't really risking knocking anything down by doing Blur.

This is Carl's first stab at it, so I reckon he'll want to give it his best shot. Doing some Libs stuff at the same time would take all of the focus off it.

i totally see where you're coming from.

he just doesn't strike me as the kind of guy who would let such things effect his decision though to be fair and more the kind of guy to do somethign on a whim because it just feels right at the time.

i mean he did exactly this when dirty pretty things had a new album coming out and played a small unannounced gig with pete at one of dohertys gigs.

he just seems so laid back and not too worried about what others think or promotion etc.

Whodathunkit?

People with varied tastes?? It's a puzzler.

I say i dislike a band, and explain i like one other band. 2 bands. Out of the probably millions that have existed in the past. 2 bands you have my opinions on, yet you laugh at my taste.

Im sure you do well by it...

To be fair if it wasn't for the Beatles the Libertines wouldn't exist.

While I get what you mean with that, it's still a different thing, being DPTs and not just himself.

And isn't it the case that when he did that show it was pretty clear that DPTs weren't really going anywhere 'big'? Wasn't it towards the end of DPT's time?

i think it was just as their new album was coming out. (my god that album was dirge!)

i just think he seems a pretty laid back guy and would do it if the mood took him.

but at the same time i'm not holding my breath.

Yeah, but not their first album - it's Carl's first album.

It was pretty clear I think that when DPT's didn't really take off with their first album that they weren't going anywhere.

i didn't mind the first album DPT released but the second one was just so,... well it was nothing! they didn't even seem to care about it and were just going through the motions, i didn't mind DPT the few times i saw them it small gigs in intimate venues they were very good but other times as support or at festivals again they just seeme dto be going through the motions.

i'm interested to see what his solo stuff will be like, so long as it isn't all whimsical jingoistic nonsense about "good ol blighty' (or albion as they insist on refering to it as) i think it may be alright but again not holding my breath.

both he and doherty just seem lacking without one another they seem to need each other to bounce off of.

maybe so.

i still find the Beatles very over rated.

I've never understood the arguement of "this band" wouldnt have existed without "this band". Becuase every band since the dawn of time has been influenced by people. Doesn't mean the peopel preceeding HAVE to be liked more than what came after/
