Ok, I have a few questions that I wouldn't mind answering, none of them are particularly complicated and maybe I should wait until it happens but i'm too excited.  :P

First question is: Do we get supplied with programmes/any sort of lineup list with times when we go through the gate or does this have to be payed for? The only other festival I have been to is Reading this year and there were programmes (which were not a lot of help) for £10, luckily I found one on top of a bin so I just stole it.

What are the toilets like? Are they long drop/trench style like in Reading camping feild and i'm guessing they get nicer the closer you get to the stages?

How far apart are the stages? I already know that everything not in one feild like it basically is in Reading but how long would it take to walk from the Pyramid to the Other Stage or Park Stage?
Also, what are the capacities of the stage feilds?

Where are generally the best places to camp/park or will the car parking be allocated with my Parking ticket?

Thanks :P

Yes a really full programme and a pocket guide, given out free as you arrive

What are the toilets like? Are they long drop/trench style like in Reading camping feild and i'm guessing they get nicer the closer you get to the stages?

A mix, long drops, portaloos, even some flush toilets, depending on where you are and knowing where to look.

How far apart are the stages? I already know that everything not in one feild like it basically is in Reading but how long would it take to walk from the Pyramid to the Other Stage or Park Stage?
Also, what are the capacities of the stage feilds?

It's not distance so much as crowds and whether you are going against the flow at a change over time.  Also slower if it's muddier.  But allow 15 - 20 mins between stages and to find a comfortable spot.

Where are generally the best places to camp/park or will the car parking be allocated with my Parking ticket?

Two main car parks East and West.  Which you use depends on the direction you're approaching from.  Assume it will be about a mile from where you park to where you camp so you probably need a trolley to lug your gear.  Lots of trolley threads on this site.

Where you camp depends on how quite/noisy you want it to be.  Again read the threads on camping.

Finally, things can be made a lot easier if you take the Monorail so pick a parking area and a camping area near Monorail stations.  See Monorail threads.

Thanks :P

Yes, you get a FREE programme. Not only is it FREE, it's actually a hugely better programme than you pay a fortune for at other festivals.

On top of that, you'll also get a handy round-the-neck 'Guardian Guide', which has the set times in for the more major stages (it doesn't include some of the smaller stuff).

the toilets are a mix of long drops and turdis' (and even a few china flushing loos if you find them). There's not really any plan to how they're mixed and sited - the long-drops are where there's been concrete & lined pits installed over the years.

Mostly, the state of them (either type) is far better than Reading, tho it of course depends how recently they've been cleaned and how considerate the people that use them are being.

the site is much MUCH bigger than Reading, and so the stages are further apart.

There's a thread around here somewhere that lists the time people say it takes to get between the various stages.

more than big enough. Unless Rolf is on :P

There's threads around here somewhere where people state the pros and cons they find with camping in the different places available. Have a search for it and make your own mind up. :P

Once you've made your mind up, then look at a map and take your pick of where you think will be the best car park entrance to head for to make your journey to your chosen campsite shortest.

Lucky you!

There are lots of tips on here for newbies. Use the search for 'newbie' 'first time' 'virgin', etc and you'll get lots of advice from hundreds of people.

for the time-being. 1) programs (and a handy pocket guide) are free and full of accurate detail. 2)lots of variation - some nice if you are prepared to queue and others not so nice (search for 'toilets' and you will see the various options) 3)10 mins to an hour and very often you will get sidetracked on the way! 4) there are no capacities at Glastonbury - everything is open and unrestricted (although very occasionally stewards may hold you back when moving between stages to avoid crushes - Rolf this year for e.g.)

One more thing - be prepared for some light-hearted banter form other posters - there have been one or two people ask smiliar questions before :P

Have a great festival!

*Edit* - apologies eFests - posted at the same time.

1. Yes, make sure you have a hand free when you go in. They scan your ticket, put your wristband on, then you emerge from the entry gate places and they giver you a nice reusable bag with a programme, along with a langyard with a stage timetable booklet. It's very good. And it's free.

2. Toilets are the same where-ever to be honest. There's longdrop and portaloos, as well as she/he pees. There's also some nicer ones which you can pay for, but I've never tried those. The toilets are not very nice anywhere in Glasto to be honest, doesn't matter where you go. Although I would have thought that the closer you are to the stages the worse they get, simply die to volume of people during the day.

3. Starting at the Pyramid, it takes about 5/10 minute walk in no crowds to get to the Other Stage. Can take longer in crowds obviously. About same to Jazz World, and it can take anything from 20-30 minutes to get to the Park Stage from the Pyramid, depending how tired you are lol. Same for Avalon. Leave plenty of time to to anywhere. We have a general rule of half an hour to get anywhere, and we camp within 5 minutes of the Pyramid.
Stage fields are huge. The Pyramid stage field is massive. Probably hold the whole festival audience if the band was good enough. Didn't 135,00 people turn up for Blur this year?
Same goes for Other Stage. It's giant.

4. Best places to camp depend on how much you want to be near the action/noise. Be prepared to walk a long way though with all your stuff from the car, from what I can gather about people who drive down. Read the forum, take advice from people! Not sure about parking, sorry. Driving down for the first time this year!

A fabulous programme and a handy guide to wear round your neck.  Both are free which you'll get alongside recycling bin bags, a loo roll in a canvas bag.  You'll get your wristband - and remember to put it on your non arse wiping wrist!

What are the toilets like? Are they long drop/trench style like in Reading camping feild and i'm guessing they get nicer the closer you get to the stages?

Long drops all over the site with many many portaloos.  I personally prefer a long drop... a little more airy and a lot less stinky.  Depends on when they have been emptied on how 'pleasant' they are, but last thing on a saturday night can be pretty grim.  Just grin and bear it and take santistiser and loo roll wherever you go.  Don't look down!

How far apart are the stages? I already know that everything not in one feild like it basically is in Reading but how long would it take to walk from the Pyramid to the Other Stage or Park Stage?

depends on number of people.  depends on depth of mud!  No people and no mud - 5 minutes.  Lots of people and lots of mud. 1 hour!  Trying to get into the Pyramid to see the Specials... 90 minutes.  grrrr.

Where are generally the best places to camp/park or will the car parking be allocated with my Parking ticket?

First come first serve basis.  I camp at Pennards and come in to the West carparks.  I have before now walked between PGD and Pennards which is a trek but you'll get used to walking at Glasters.

great for info

Thanks :P

Thanks again! Good news about programme, I was hoping for something like that as Glastonbury seems less corporate than everywhere else.

People, be careful of using the word "free" to describe the programme. I think the phrase "included in your ticket price" is a better description.

All Fields are more than big enough

Pyramid: quite easily be able to take 120,000 though I'd imagine it never has or very rarely
Other=Reading mainstage: about 40/50000
Jazz/World: 10/15,000 though it had trouble for Rolf lol
JP: 4,000 or so ?
Park: 1/2000 near the stage though you could sit on the hill and get thousands more

The other 'larger' tents and such probably don't surpass 1000 by much if it all

JP is a 10,000 capacity tent.

The Jazzworld field can hold 50,000 or so (probably more than that for Rolf this year).

Yep. I've been working there for the last couple of years, and have never managed to get hold of a programme either time. You only really get them when you come in with a ticket.

while it's true that they're only given free to paying ticket holders, programmes can also be bought from the information stalls for those that want extras or don't have a free one because they're a worker.

I took a trip on the monorail on the Wednesday night with a small party of people, the driver was in a right state and should never have been handed the keys  :P
