Some one in the Discussions forum mentioned they had seen bottle throwing at Glasto this year, specifically during Kasabian.

I didn't go to see Kasabian myself - but found it difficult to believe.  Anyone?

i was 'present' for kasabian's set but i wasn't paying any attention, just sitting drinking and waiting for springsteen.

i've never seen any bottle throwing at glasto though.

I voted 'no' but it should really say 'not since the superfence'.

There were a lot of twats there in 2000, saw plenty thrown then.  :P

Been fine since.

I didn't see any I dont think, there were some cups thrown during The Prodigy but I think they were just the cups of water that the stewards were giving out. Was actually quite nice cooling off a bit if im being honest and at least it wasnt cider or worse...

That might have been me, although I don't take any glass to Glastonbury I pick any up if i see it - after watching with horror some barefooted hippy chick have her feet torn to pieces whilst she was tripping - i never walk past a bottle without picking it up.

Saw a few paper cups being thrown and may have been a plastic bottle in there but definitely no glass. Only saw one glass bottle all festival, left on the ground by Jazz World, which I binned.

Saw a few empty plastic bottles been thrown at some wally who decided to climb the poles/ropes of the Queens Head tent during Maximo Park. He sort of dangled from the canopy and ignored the barrage until one hit him on the head ( My how we all laughed). It was all taken with good spirit as he atempted to swat them before returning to the ground in a rope burning descent to take the applause from his audience. Happy days :P

I voted no but having thought of it a couple of plastic bottles/cups were thrown at a group of south africans celebrating after the Lions game by the big screen but it didn't seem to be with any type of 'venom' & was all in good humour.

Yes at Kasabian we were standing by the 2 bushes to the right of the stage as you look at it and during the start of the set a bunch of about 20 well I have to say it Scallys turned up and started throwing whatever they found on the the floor around cups, empty bottles(plastic), stools etc towards the front of the crowd. They carried on for a few songs then the crowd around us first of all asked them to stop..they carried on... then a couple of Green Police turned up and started blowing there whistles etc and then all of the crowd around them turned against them...they then sulked off towards the beer tent....thing is they weren't kids they were at least early 30's to late 30's but were all on something.

saw a few cups go up in the air when dizzee played bonkers, they went through the air at the "B-B-B-B-B-B-B-B-B-B-B--B-B-B-B-B-B-B-B-B-B---BONKERS!" part of the song and went up to cheers and laughter i may add.

no harm seemed intended or lets face it can be done by a paper cup and it's was just a bit of fun at an appropriate point in a song.

some people need to get over themselves at the whole throwing thing, so long as it's not bottles or stools or anything daft being done for no good reason and just to aggrivate or annoy i don't see the harm, i've quite enjoyed the spectacle of bottle wars in the past, especially when everyone is joining in and laughing like at MGMT at V this year and The Kooks at Isle of Wight last year.

i remmber me and our group getting hit by paper cups whilst down front at IOW this year and me and our group cheering, it wasn't a sustained bombardment just occasionally during parts of some songs that built to a climax type of thing, and a group of shall we say "older" festival goers constantly turning round and glaring at us whenever they got hit despite it obviously not being us throwing the cups as we we're  amere 10ft to 15ft behind them and these cups were blatently coming from the rear of the crowd.

those miserable shits annoyed me far more than the cups ever did.

all this "it should never happen at glastonbury" nonsense is just glasto snobbery once again rearing it's head, as it actually is possible for this kind of thing to be done in a fun lighthearted manner.

i think the main reason it doesn't happen at glastonbury is because people have their own beers in cans and that would be idiotic to throw such things and i think that in turn people just don't throw anything, which despite my previous comments about not minding cup throwing is a good thing in the grand scheme of things.

Harry Strongbow Ciderman was around these forums a lot last year, and lives a few blocks away from me. You may have heard of him. He wears a 'magic' hat. I'd like a straight-faced emoticon to finish with please.

If I recall right. (Not an efester :P   )

Throwing stuff's been going on on and off for years now. Loads of bands on the Pyramid and other stages in 1997 got mud thrown at them to some degree, it became the thing to do.

Most took it well, think the Levellers threw some back, and 3 Colours Red came back on stage after they'd finished just to have a mud fight with the crowd. The best one was the Smashing Pumpkins though, where a very serious and smart tour manager came on stage and said that the band would refuse to come on unless people stopped throwing mud. At that moment, someone threw a perfectly aimed clod which smacked into on of the mic stands at the front of the stage, and sent it crashing to the ground with an almighty boom given the mic was already live.

Everyone cheered, the Pumpkins came on, but they probably regretted trying to tell the crowd not to do something given the barrage they got.

Not a bottle, but my brother in law received a full can of liquid (he hoped it was beer) to the back of the head while waiting for Springsteen to come on. Hurt like hell he said.

Morons who chuck anything that can cause damage to someone else deserve to have the whole crowd pelt THEM with beer cans, half eaten curries etc.  Think of it as the modern equivalent of stoning.   :P
