eFestivals editor Scottie has just got off the phone from interviewing Levellers frontman Mark Chadwick, who says they're hoping to play Glastonbury next year, and are currently in discussions. Mark hopes they'll play the Pyramid.
Mark is under the impression that they've been asked as part of this 40th anniversary thing because they've previously headlined, which suggests there could be plenty of past headliners on the bill.

here's the exact words of Mark....
"We're hoping to play it next year, I believe because it's part of the 40th Anniversary. I believe they want to bring back bands who have headlined it over the decades. I'd obviously like to play it. Hopefully, we're going to be on the Pyramid Stage but we'll see, we have no idea, it's in discussions."

I did like their afternoon slot at Jazz World a few years back , the Brothers helped of course.
I missed most of the Leftfield set the other year , cos I was unable to extract myself from the
delights of the Red Flag

I once made the mistake of drinking with them for a few hours while I interviewed them.
I had to go home and have some coffee and something to eat, to try to sober up. I returned to the venue 3 hours later for the gig, and they were still in the pub next door .... they came straight from the pub (with their beers in hand) and onto the stage half an hour later.
I'm amazed that any of them have working livers.

I'd quite like to see Levellers, so good news. Did they used to be really big or something? I'm very surprised that they've headlined, as you don't really hear much about them these days.

They are one of those bands that have always been to the left of mainstream (both politically and musically!) never tried to be big but went through a stage of being big in the public eye for a couple of years.
