Hi
Just wondering if anyone has stayed in one fo the tipi's before?
What are they like? Good points and bad points would be great please
Not taking into account that they are a lot of money - if you had the chance to Tipi instead of camp would you?
Thanks

I always fancied the idea but the extra price always put us off. Would love to hear from someone who has done it.

I did in 07 in those just behind the park
Advantages - Already set up
Secure
Separate toilets and showers
Spacious
Disadvantages - Can be out of the way
Quite lifeless
In fact very lifeless - but not quiet we were next to the Park backstage bar which boomed all night
Expensive for a dozen poles, a ground sheet and cloth
I probably wouldn't do it again to be honest, just because it is a bit dead at night

Not stayed in one but talking to a tipi maker last year he pointed out that they were originally designed by North American Indians for dry desert conditions. In wet British weather the rain can run down the poles and leave big puddles inside the tents unless there is a modification and they put a cover sheet over the top.
Don't know if the ones you can hire have that mod.

As amazing as the Tipis look (and I love the Tipi field, saw some great music there this year), you'd be better off constructing one yourself. I swear I saw some homemade tipis in one of the camping fields this year, was a great touch- anyone else see them?

we have stayed in a tipi twice, in 2007 and 2008. The advantages are that it does save you carying a tent, and you have more room for booze etc, they are pretty big and they are quite spaced out. They come with a ground sheet, and rain catcher. In 2007 it did leek tho, as they hadnt quite got the rain catcher things sorted,we had a own toilets, and they were very secure.
In 2008 things had changed tho, we had no toilets, plus the security (or lack of it) was pathetic, you dont get the festival vibe as much and they simply didnt seem worth the money.
Dont get me wrong I know festivals are about slumming it in the festival spirit, but for the money we paid (trust me it wiped me out!) I think its better to camp with everyone else to get a true glastonbury experience. BACK TO CAMPING FOR ME THIS YEAR!!!

the 'real' tipi field is still there, it's next to the fake one...

I fancy it, but not at the money they are charging. It would totally wipe me out too. Still interested, but just cannot afford.

My friend has a Tipi and took it a few years ago and stayed in the old tipi filed. I didnt sleep in it but spent a lot of time there and it was really cool. Infact that was a hot year and it did also stay nice and cool inside.

Stayed in the fake one last year and think the replies pretty much sum things up.
Plenty room to laze about and hate saying this, but the showers were ahhhhhhhhh !
Pretty expensive for what you get and not much life in the field.

Anyone know if you are still allowed to take your own Tipi and pitch up in the fake tipi field. They used to charge a fee for a pass. I qwquite fancy getting the old girl down tehre. She hasn't had a decent airing since 2008. But cannot find the olf address :-(

This year is the first time I'll be staying in the tipi's - not for any other reason than I'm trying to experience different aspects of the festival. Showers are a bonus, and a few of us are doing it so the cost wasn't too severe.
Hope its a hot year!
