If they included the song Lemon I would track Bono down and piss in his boots!

Otherwise excited! :)

I dont think Pulp are strong enough to headline the festival to be honest. They certainly dont have as many sing-along songs as Blur or The Boss.

You don't know what you're talking about then mate.

I would really like to spend less time at the Pyramid stage this year so U2 headlining would be fine by me. With that gap in the tour I would not be surprised if they will be the Saturday night headliner too. I am actually looking forward to how I can now spend my Saturday differently in Glasto.

Pulp though man that will be f**king excellent. I will definitely be near the front of the Pyramid stage for them Yorkshire bastards.

U2 at Glasto will be mega. 80K people in that Pyramid field. Haters need to recognise.

Couldn't agree more.  I would love it if they played.  Seen them twice this tour and both shows were fantastic.  Maybe a little less new and a lot more old stuff would make for a brilliant Saturday headline

People on these boards have long memories so expect to be held to that if it happens.

This news certainly doesn't rule them out (which seems to make it slightly more likely that it might happen)

I'd be pleased, they're unquestionably the biggest British Isles rock band of the last 20 years.

Cue people questioning the unquestionable...

Really, genuinely, hate that phrase in this context.

I thought they were Irish and from Dublin.  Always under the impression Ireland was a country in its own right.  What did I know  :)

They are Irish and from Dublin, Ireland is a seperate country, but Ireland is a seperate country on one island of the many British Isles.

As for U2 playing Glastonbury.  No chance, it ain't gonna happen.  The gap in that tour means jack.  There is no way they are going to ditch that stage set for any show soon.

That's not an arguement though. Travis headlined in 2000, are you saying you'd be happy if they headlined next year?

edited to say that anyone who thinks that U2 wouldn't be an awesome headliner can frankly kiss my scrotum! (how's that for being juvenile Langdale?  :) )

That's pretty good mate, but I think using any of the following would have earned you more kid points:

Bojangles
Love spuds
Tezzers
Ian Dowie's Face
Spunk Factories
Chicken Skin Handbag
Knackersack
Pods
Nadbag

But you can have a 7.5 out of 10.

Youre right mate of course. No one I know would acknowledge that term. Do you think it promotes Irish identity around the world through continued use of this phrase? It is not merely geographical.

:) :)

To paraphrase Walter Sobchak "Also, Dude, British Isles is not the preferred nomenclature. British and Irish Isles, please."

I think Led Zeppelin, Rolling Stones and AC/DC will headline so no worries there!
and pulp, chemical brothers and kanye west will headline the other stage and u2 won't do it without being offered like 50 million pounds anyway!

No band gets it's own 'full set'. We had all this earlier this year with someone insisting that Bruce Springsteen would have walkways because he always has walkways. They wouldn't listen, just went on and on about how integral it was to Springsteen.

When U2, relatively recently, said they would be interested in playing Glastonbury, I'm sure they were well aware of this - that acts don't *ever* get to do massive custom stage sets at any festival.

The Republic of Ireland is not British.

The use of the phrase over here is highly contentious - In fact the only people ive heard use it in fairness are Ulster Unionists and English.

U2 are rubbish.  They used to be good, then they started to believe their own press and disappeared up their own arses.  Bono especially.

The other thing is that if you look at their songs, they aren't that good and a lot of the sound is just an overuse of reverb and echo, hence why you don't get much acoustic stuff.  There's a lot of show with U2 and not much substance.

As a Yorkshire Bastard AND a Pulp fan, I would much rather they got the gig.  If I'm honest though, I'm not sure either of them will be there - for different reasons.

...I've no problem with the term "British Isles" in a geographical sense (much in the way most British people I know have no problem with the "Irish Sea")...it's simply that, a geographical term. However, U2 are Irish, and probably the biggest band in the world. There's no reason to co-opt them into being "British", they're just Irish, end of....or can we claim we won the world cup in 1966? :) :P

Would you ever tell someone "I'm from the British Isles" ? F uck off wouldya chief? Youre from Ireland. It's use all over the world is a throw back to the days of the Empire.

To me, the "British Isles" anacronism is more used by English people to include other places. Nobody else is bothered.

Why is it that we can no longer think of the British Isles without the word Paedoph in front of them?
