the rumors that U2 were definitely out of Glasto consideration as they were booked for the Meadowlands in New Jersey over Glasto weekend are now unfounded, as that date is in July. and...the official dates just released show a far too convenient gap btw shows on june 23 and 30...
obviously they wouldn't be using that 'spider' thing for glasto, so they could just fly over with their musical equipment and then head back to North America for the remainder of the tour.

So U2 - well known for being difficult and outrageously expensive - are going to fly back during a break in their American tour - without most of their set - just to play a festival they appear to have next to no time for?!
Hmm..... I think not. Dream on.
I don't mind U2's music (and wouldn't mind seeing them actually), but I've nothing but disdain for Bono and his vomit-inducing preaching.
They ain't going to play people.

I dont think Pulp are strong enough to headline the festival to be honest. They certainly dont have as many sing-along songs as Blur or The Boss.

Oh and yeah, U2 suck balls.

Bullshit.
See Youtube clips of their previous headlining performances. Pretty damn good.
I would say they have plenty more sing-a-long tunes than Springsteen, and daresay they'd be a damn sight more enjoyable too <insert can of worms opening emoticon here>

I never quite understand the "this band isn't big enough to headline" argument haven't the so called best headline performances always come from bands who stepped up a level.

Ooooooh so are U2 the ultimate Marmite band? Love 'em or hate 'em.
With Glasto's good causes support it would be a test of whether Bono was prepared to put his money where his mouth is.

Maybe I'm just not "with it" anymore but they've never interested me. A few decent pop songs but were never on par with the majority of britpop bands. How I see it, if Pulp headline it would *puts on helmet for inevitable abuse coming my way* be akin to Supergrass headlining.

whats wrong wiv supergrass????
everyone has different tastes and opinions but Pulp never got the recognition they deserved!
you can take your helmet off now haha

Their set being in the US isn't relevant. Even if it were sitting in trucks up at Bath and West, it simply wouldn't fit.
So the question is, would they use an alternative 'Pyramid sized' set as a one off? Normally the answer would obviously be 'no', and of course there would be the money thing too.
But, U2's star has been wobbling a bit of late, in the view of some observers. So there could be an incentive that hasn't existed before, tying up of course with the massive exposure the 40th is going to bring.
