Topic title says it all...

I see Radiohead in 1997 crop up quite a bit, and I'd say Jay-Z is also definitely up there. Another three I keep hearing about are Pulp 1995, The Prodigy 1997 and Paul McCartney 2004.

I also think Blur and possibly Springsteen from this year will go down in history.

And then there's the legendarily bad performances such as Oasis 2004 and Happy Mondays 1990.

I think the headliner that always sticks in my mind is Macca. Sometimes you forget just how good headliners can be, but I have so many memories of that show.

*The big yellow curtain that covered the stage - It opened and there was Paul behind it. Simple, but sent shivers up my spine when it flew open.

*Live and Let die - I was on the front barrier, I had waited through alot of things to get that spot (Including Black eyed peas   ), but this song made it more than worth it. The flames nearly took my head off mind you and I can still remember the heat coming from them. Awesome.

* Hey Jude - Jaw dropping. One of my least favourite Beatles songs...yet...I dunno that night with everyone singing it...wow.

*Helter Skelter - The first time played Live EVER - That says it all.

* Pauls dedication to John and George (All things must pass) = Tears

* The red/white/blue glitter/paper that was shot into the crowd at the end. Just remembered being covered with the stuff. I still have the bits today, a nice little memory

I don't think anything has since come close to touching that Pyramid performance IMO (Including Blur last year who were outstanding)

I agree on all points there. Radiohead were amazing in 1997 but SFA blew me away, as did Chemical Brothers that year. I wasn't that impressed with Prodigy in 97 mind, but that might be due to the fact that there were just too many people trying to see them at once.

Dare I say it but the Radiohead set almost had me in tears.

hey, there's no shame in it... i had tears in my eyes during Climbing Up The Walls this year and that was at Reading Fest so i can only imagine what it would be like at Glastonbury!!!

I have to agree - Macca in 2004 is my favourite gig of all time.  Incredible.  I can't see it ever being topped.  I also loved Bowie in 2000 - quite a show.

Oasis the previous evening were shite and a huge let down though, the worst headline act I've seen.

As much as liked the Bowie set in 2000 I watched it with my old Uni friend who was practically in love with him so this slightly marred the event.

I kind of remember Carl Cox being very good in 1999. I say kind of. I just remember lots and lots of pretty colours. Acid you are a cruel, cruel mistress.......

From what I've seen on youtube/dvd or read about in magazines and boards, it seems Radiohead in 1997 and Pulp in 1995 are the winners because both acts were headlining a major festival for the first time (and the most major one at that), overcame great obstacles (horrible weather and being bumped up to replace the original headliner, respectively) and went above and beyond with transcendent performances that made everything all better, and both bands really blew up after those sets.

Oh yes, that's a great one.  I have a bootleg dvd of this performance and then the proper dvd that came with the special edition of Black Holes & Revelations (but why doesn't the official dvd have Citizen Erased?).  Shame the new album is such a disappointment.

Blur in 1998 were pretty immense.  I'd say the best overall headline set I've seen on the Pyramid.  

McCartney will certainly live long in the memory of those who were there.  OK, so it wasn't actually the first live performance of Helter Skelter (that was at least 30 May 2004 in Madrid if not before (I only know 'cause I downloaded a bootleg of it to see if I thought I should go and see him).  I expect he said it was the first time played every night on the tour...

I think he'll be back for another go this year as well.  Just a hunch.
