Dear Michael and Emily

Firstly, great job in 2009, I think it was one of the best and I’ve been to every Glastonbury since 1982. I know you must be busy looking for acts for 2010 so I thought I would help with a list of ideas I’ve been developing since 82!

Mega super stars who would make fantastic headliners

U2; Bon Jovi; Eagles; Madonna; Rolling Stones; Bowie; Eminem; AC/DC

Bands who did great performances in the past and should play again to resurrect their career or just for old times sake

James; Moby; Simple Minds; Van Morrison; Joss Stone; Magic Numbers; The Cure; St Etienne; The Pogues; Cranberries; Scissor Sister; Pet Shop Boys; Robbie Williams; Billy Bragg; Underworld

Good Fun novelty acts

Girls Aloud; Bee Gees;  Lisa Minnelli; Trans-Siberian Orchestra;  Rob Zombie; Elton John; Marilyn Manson; Stevie Wonder; Pussycat Dolls; Take That; Tom Petty; Sex Pistols

Those who could and should fill a Status Quo type slot

ZZ Top; Meat Loaf; Dumpy Rusty Nuts; Hawkwind; Alice Cooper; Deep Purple; Bryan Adams

Bands who should reform just for Glastonbury

Slade; Stone Roses; ELO; Sham 69; Frankie Goes To Hollywood; Shakatak; Gorillaz; The Beautiful South

Those would make the best headliners ever but won’t play for one reason or another

The Beatles; Doors; Metallica; Queen; Pink Floyd; ABBA; Led Zeppelin

Hope this helps; I don’t know why I get so excited about the line up as I normally  miss most bands as I don’t ever seem to get pass that darn cider bus :)

A bit unfair to put Tom Petty in the Novelty section.

metallica looks incredibly out of place amongst the legends you list! thank goodness they will never ever play.

gorillaz havent split up

Of course.  Any man who won the Emmy Award for best album in five years out of six and released some of the most innovative, thought-provoking and downright funky music of all time is clearly a novelty act.  The novelty being he is rightfully called a musical genius sailing in a sea of mediocrity.

What's your problem with Metallica? They'd certainly make The Rolling Stones look like the joke of a band that they are nowadays if they were to play.

I can't take Metallica seriously anymore to be honest.  The last time I saw them they put on a good show, and I know that the last album was a bit of a return to form, but the nailed their own coffin shut with their napster, Symphony Orchestra, lift music instrumental version of Nothing Else Matters shenninigans years ago.

Although I'm firmly part of the "They haven't been as good since Cliff died" brigade.

Of the two, I'd rather watch the Stones live without a doubt.

Mind you, if the rumoured tour of Metallica, Slayer, Anthrax and Megadeth happened, I'd bite your arm off for a ticket.

they are not a band that to be taken seriously anymore. Just a bit of a joke. Rock-pop if you like. A couple of great albums and thats it. Lots and lots of bands have made a couple of great albums.

Most definitely not in anything like the same league as the beatles, pink floyd, led zep etc as listed above.

Anyone that rates them as "legends" is utterly insane.

The Rolling Stones, or Metallica?  I'm guessing you mean Metallica.  Because the Rolling Stones made more than a couple of great albums.

apologies. Yes, I meant metallica.

Rolling stones are legends in any sense of the word you want to use. Superb band. If they had quit mid 70s or so theyd be rated as the beatles equal (maybe)

Possibly, maybe, could have been, would have been etc.  Certainly - and I've said this before so if I'm repeating myself, I apologise - their albums from Beggars Banquet through Let it Bleed, Sticky Fingers Exile on Maine Street :) and Goat's Head Soup are some of my favourite albums of all time.

Tattoo You was very good, and that was released in 1980 - although it's mainly old tracks agreed.  I know it's Only Rock N Roll is okay too.   I actually quite liked some of Steel Wheels, Vodoo Lounge and Bridges to Babylon.   But when Mick wrestled control from Keith late 70s early 80s, it was at times horrific.  Especially when compared to Beggars et al.

I've not heard a Bigger Bang mind.

Those who could and should fill a Status Quo type slot

ZZ Top; Meat Loaf; Dumpy Rusty Nuts; Alice Cooper; Deep Purple; Bryan Adams

This has genuinely baffled me. Are you serious, this is all shite f**king rock w*nk. I didn't know that was a legitimate recognised Pyramid slot these days. I must have missed that meeting.

Please, Can we stop celebrating the mediocre?

Alice Cooper is f**king brilliant.  Only Women Bleed is a classic song.  His songwriting is excellent, and he's a great performer.

And anyone who thinks that Deep Purple's "Child in Time" is  f**king rock w*nk has no idea of what he or she is writing.

Unfortunately I did see him about two years ago, against my will. A c**t in c**t's clothing.
