having read the thread about the t rex tribute band playin on fri, and judging by how well bjorn again went down. How about as it is the 40th anniversary dedicating one if the tents on thurs when there isn't a lot going on to cover bands celebrating all the artists that have played, there are loads of them out there and a lot of very good ones, most of which would probably play for free just to come to the festie.

I for one would love to have a few beers and a bit of a boogie to some smiths/stone roses/rolling stones/Bowie on the Thursday, I am all for new bands playing and getting a bit of coverage on Thursday but I just think this would go down a whole lot better.

What do yuo think?  Maybe post a few links to decent acts........

Well I just suggested the t rex tribute (just based on them being the first headliners) so no idea if it would actually happen.
I have been to the Sziget festival and they did have a tent called the retro music festival tent and it would full of tribute bands. It was kind of fun to go to if there was nothing else on you wanted to see.

Bjorn again were a great opener... and I agree some kind of tribute to get the ball rolling.

However, I like the wednesdays and Thursdays of years gone by with NOTHING on.  We sit, we chill, we walk, we explore, we chat to strangers...  In this day and age, people feel like they have to be constantly entertained... Why?

The other year on " Lost Thursday ! " we spent an hour watcihing a bloke in a JCB bang a big
totem pole into the ground up in the green field.

It was brilliant !!! , great entertainment , one of the highlights of a perfect day !!

The parrots, the japanese beatles tribute band are really good. Remember how busy the wine bar got when they were playing beatles music. There would be a massive crowd for a good beatles sing and dancealong

Loving the idea of The Beatles tribute band, pretty much everyone loves The Beatles and it'd be brilliant to have a bit of a sing along to their hits.

I am not overly keen on tribute acts but in certain cirumstances they can be ok. For instance if they are playing the music from a long gone band. For example Marc Boland and T Rex, with the festival history.

I reckon a tribute tent somewhere or tribute Thursday would be a good idea.  I've seen some bloody good tribute acts.  Clone Roses are great and so are Eton Rifles.  Not like The Stone Roses or The Jam are likely to play Glasto is it so why the hell not?

We can't ban tribute acts really. Last year we had Tony Chrstie play the Pyramid and I can only recall him singing two of his own songs.
There should be no tribute acts to newish bands however, i don't wanna see anything like Fake That, although I don't really wanna see Take that either.

Glastonbudget is Glastonbudget, and I've no problem with that, for what it is. Not my thing but fair play.

It's when these acts are on at Glastonbury that I get f**ked off.

I'd love to see The Bootleg Beatles there somewhere, I haven't seen them, but they should be pretty good, as on their tours they are like £20-25 a ticket!!

Good idea we never got to see bjorn again because we where knackered and slept for longer than we wanted to and after the long haul down from the campervan fields it was too late but heard they where pretty good

They've played Glastonbury loads of times.

Personally tribute bands seem very cheap and tacky in general, but then I'm more than happy to do the cheesy silent disco on Wednesday/Thursday so I'm not really sure. I think a whole day would be too much, but a couple of decent ones here and there could be okay.

As previously discussed elsewhere The Hamsters are a kick-ass cover band who I'd happily see any day.
