I love watching stand up, never been to an actual gig mind, but I really like it nonetheless.

Who do you like?

I like Michael Mcintyre, Stewart Lee, Eddie Izzard (can't believe the amount of RUNNING this guy is doing right now!) and of course Bill Hicks. I like Chris Rock too but he can be a bit in your face sometimes. Dave Chappelle, what I've seen of him, is funny. Dylan Moran, Russell Brand.

as a regular sponsor of comedy @ festivals around this country, I only make one stipulation to the people doing the stage programming - and that's to book comedians. :P

The fact is that nearly all of the not-big-name (and even unknown) comedians are no less good than the famous ones. And pleasingly - and very unlike many people's approach to music - the audiences don't much care if they've heard of the act on stage in front of them or not, they'll give them a properly fair chance to impress them with their material and rate them on that, and not how famous they are.

The wife and I saw a hysterically funny bloke in the caberet tent at Glasto 2008, but cannot for the life of me remember his name. He certainly wasn't well known.

It's true though - as long as the delivery is good, a funny joke will make people laugh no matter who tells it.

I think it's weird that, in the main, people won't have the same approach to music.

In the same way as a well delivered good joke is just as funny from someone unknown as it is someone famous, a well delivered good song is just as good from someone unknown as it is someone famous - yet whereas most people will give a unknown comedian the chance to impress, they won't give the same opportunity to an unknown band.

can I just add - Michael McIntyre is a c**t.

I think he can be quite funny once he gets going, but his mannerisms drive me up the wall. When he introduces his guests, he needs shooting. Stop the foppishness Mike, and just tell us some f**king jokes!

Out of the frame's list (cheers for that btw!) I have heard of/seen cips of Marcus Brigstocke - funny as f**k, Rich Hall, he's the lanky yank isn't he, with the drawly voice, he's great.

Jim Jeffries, isn't he the filthy Australian? If he is, then I watched a youtube clip of him talking about buying a rubber pussy at a porn supermarket in Amsterdam. I really liked him.

I will look up some of the others you mention, frame, although can't say I really rated the Kitson clip - it did make me smile and laugh a wry laugh or two, but not overly impressed with that clip.

Russell Howard is terrible. Has he ever said anything funny on Mock The Week?

I also concur that Jimmy Carr is a c**t, and Dave Allen is an absolute legend.

My tuppenceworth - Eddie Izzard, Jack Dee, Rich Hall, Reginald D. Hunter, Frankie Boyle, Tony Blair.

Richard Pryor FTW.
