I love watching football but would not choose any match (Ok perhaps the semi or final) over the opportunity to watch and listen to live music. I would suggest a small portable radio to tune into Radio 5..!
There again, my family are Scottish and as we know, we Scots have very low expectations when it comes to any major (or minor) football tournament.
Good luck England!

And lower the national average IQ significantly by the sound of it.

The worst thing would be England in group A-D and get througt to the next round where the games could go to extra time and pens.  As said E or F great and with G and H hopefully England have qualified by the last game and even if they have not the game can only be 90 min (+ injury time)

I hope they just don't show it if it falls on Friday-Sunday. Easier all round. Don't get me wrong, I'd like to see it, but I don't want to sacrifice a slot on the Other/Pyramid. Wouldn't like to be the band going on after if England lose either. If people are that desperate, they can go to Bristol or somewhere

I love football and always watch and follow England. I Love galstonbury and have been 8 of the last 9 years. However they shouldn't mix. If i desperately wanted to watch England i wouldn't go to Glasto. If there is a game during Glastonbury then it shouldn't be shown.

I wouldn't go to Glastonbury if the final was on and we were in it!

But it ain't so Glasto here i come (providing i get a ticket)!!!

I think the point here though is that no-one knows when England will be playing, or if they will get that far, and tickets for Glastonbury go on sale in 2 weeks.

Liking football and music are not mutually exclusive, as proved by the crowds that have watched England matches when shown at Glastonbury in the past.

The only reasons I can see for not showing it would be safety concerns and timing issues with bands, I don't get this "shouldn't show it" for philosophical reasons, it is just another form of entertainment that many will enjoy.

This has to be a good argument (another good argument I should say - i can think of about 1000!) for bringing back the outdoor cinema?

If the match falls on a Saturday or Sunday evening there's no other way to have a reasonably sized viewing area (can't imagine shutting down the Pyramid or other stages for a match).

Spot on with the outdoor cinema plan. it was great up there in 04

I agree that there might not be as many folks interested as last time, but there would STILL be a lot.  I still think there would be too many people to screen it anywhere other than the two main stages.

Really does depend on what else is on. Cinema field may suffice if they schedule it against some very big acts. 2004 was an aberration. I have no interest in football whatsover, don't watch the World Cup when I'm at home but caught the last half of the 2004 game because it was the only thing on and the atmosphere was awesome. But if there were bands on you'd never have got me down there.

They just need bands that don't mind playing while it's on. Everyone keeps mentioning James but everything I've seen and heard since they got back together three years ago is that Glastonbury won't book them any more. I don't know if that's because they refused to go on on time so the football could be shown but it seems a strange co-incidence.
