With all the news of the 40th Annivarsary festival next year I'm hoping The Cure would be able to get their way in and headline. They have headlined the Pyramid more than any other band in the Festivals history so realistically they should be there.
However, I do know that they would do it, without being given a headline slot, which is a bit annoying seeing as though they aren't as big as they were but they do sell a lot of tickets when on tour both in Europe and in the States.
So, what does everyone think, would they be able to do it or do you think their demands would be too big?

Also, does anyone know about the falling out Eavis and the band had? It seems Robert Smith and Eavis at one time were great mates. I know Eavis made some comments about the bands headline performances being poor but I honestly think thats bullshit on his side because he invited them to headline on three different occations which makes me wonder what else went on because I don't see the logic in booking a band to headline that he previously thought were poor. Wasn't there something in 2004 as well? It seemed almost certain the band were to play but then there was a change?

Would be a great addition to the Pyramid stage. They could definitely be headliners but I think perhaps they would suit being under an act like I dunno, maybe Bowie

The Cure playing as the sun sets would be epic. Maybe they could be a co-headliner

The Cure would be a lifetime dream for me.  Saw them (or rather a video -bit of a cheat really) in Glasgow more years ago than I care to mention.

great questions were posed in the initial post, and just random 'yes, that would be nice' responses thus far aftewards. a shame no insight so far...

getting back to Beau1's question(s)....does anyone know what happened in 2004 ? I think at one point didn't R. Smith say something about "we wanted to do it, but they didn't take us?"? i know efests basically had them as close to being confirmed as could be? is there indeed an Eavis/Cure riff at all? would The Cure accept a second-from-top on Sunday slot or must they headline? it seems natural that just as they closed the 25th anniversary one in '95 that they should do the 40th next yr, if all is all right?

don't usually post during the "off season" as it's to damn painful but thought I'd contribute.

The cure would be excellent, the reason they were very very strong rumours is that after the NME awards this year where the cure won lifetime achievement and the eaviss were present, michael said that they had been talking that night and made a verbal contract with a band present to headline in 2010, everyone put two and two together and assumed the cure.

On a side note, after seeing radiohead at Reading, after not even being a true fan, if Eavis doesn't get thfm at glasto I will slap him on his bald head. They were incredible, starting with creep they sh*t all over every other band there.  Amazing.

You think?
you'd think so far more if you'd seen them at Glasto in 97 or '03. Here's the full '03 set for you.

Thanks . Yeah, it does make sense for them to do the 40 years anniversary seeing as though they did both the 20 years and the 25 years.
I can't see them accepting a second from top slot, they only headline these days, especially for a Festival that used to be their hunting ground as such.
However, they wish to play until they get chucked off (like what happened at Coachella this year) so I guess if they are offered that headline slot then they will almost definatly take it.
