Any opinion on the security this year? The ones I had dealings with were well friendly!

Example 1. Two lads watching Sunshine Underground. one lad happens to be the brother of the front man.
BOTH get thrown out of the ENTIRE festival for smoking a J.

Now i know you can say.."well, it is a no drugs policy" which is true. But still...what a bunch of Nazis..

Did i mention 10 security staff took them out??

A bunch of ignorant f**ktards relishing in a sense of authority they don't have normally. Do you expect people to be helpful & friendly when their normal level of social interaction begins & ends with 'would you like fries with that'.

i found it harder to smuggle booze into the arena's than normal.

but friendly-wise and being helpful they were pretty good.

apart from some prick who wouldnt let me take my pint back into the arena at 12.30am (which i had bought in the arena) who got a right blasting from yours truly and i walked in anyway

My dealings with Security this year were shabby to say the least.

My Dad was assulted by a Security guard this year without any reason. My parents were trying to get back to the Campervan site through the carparks from my camp, Gold. They got onto the main road part of the carparks and a Security guard came running over and pushed my dad in the chest, started shouting at him to get back in the campsite, he was going to get him thrown out blah blah blah.

My dad is a big, muscley guy. He told the guard not to talk to him like that and then went back the way they should be going. All the while my parents were walking back, the guard was goading my dad to try and get a reaction, they ignored him as he didn't want to hurt the guy or get thrown out. When the guard decided he was in close enough proximity for back up, he pushed my dad on the floor, pushed his head into the ground, punched him, kicked him, twisted his arm behind his back. At this point my dad passed out and medical back up was called.

After having his eye glued back together, an ECG, his arm put in a sling. The docs wanted him to go to hospital but he decided not to. The head of security has investigated the situation and all the witnesses (and fellow Security guards) agreed with my parents side of the story. The guard was thrown off site.

I have got to tell you, this ruined the festival for my parents (who were first timers at v fest) and I think it is appauling. My dad now can't go to work until his arm and shoulder are fixed, so he is at a loss of earnings. A very stern letter will be being sent to Virgin. I would go as far to say, I doubt I will be giving them any of my money again.

Oh. My dad has just been to the doctors, and is now on the way to Casualty, due to his wrist being broken.

I have to say that this is disgraceful.  There is massive cause for complaint here and you and your family should take some legal advice. Has your Dad though about going to the police?  If his injuries are as bad as you say, it could constitute GBH which is the highest form of assault before murder!  Makes my little moans and groans look insignificant.

I hope your Dad has a speedy recovery.

Most of my interactions with security were good this year:

I was a little disapointed that some of the bad behavoiur (of punters) at other festivals had crept into V (theiving the explosion in Red on Monday morning) but was very impressed with the security response. On both occasions the culprits were identified and chucked out at Reading there would of been a shrug of the shoulders and the nonsense would be allowed to carry on.

I have just recieved a call from my Mum. Dad has broken his arm and thumb and will need a pin in his thumb.

I can't actually believe it.

I think I might make a pledge for witnesses on here because my mum didn't have time to get the details off the two people who offered there details as my dad passed out before she had chance

Like anything some of the security were sound, some were probably short-term and so acting like idiots.
Talked to a sound couple who worked security at loads of events and were laid back, easy to talk to and just like your average festival goer. Then I had an incident with a security guy on gold when he told me I couldn't leave to go to the car park (not exactly Alcatraz security needed I have a ticket) without a wristband, despite having the tickets of some people waiting outside in the queue. He had a sense of humour bypass and told me to leave or he'd tear up my tickets.

It's just swings and roundabouts really, I think there are good and bad and as long as you don't go at them with a 'I've been listening to Green Day for the last 4 hours and I hate authority and you' attitude 8/10 times you're alright. Like anything though you get those who go on a power trip because they have a bit of control...

To be fair, most of the Security people I encountered were OK. There were some who had the sense of humour bypass but I guess it's a pretty thankless task for the most part so I can sort of understand it (doesn't make it right).

On the Saturday early evening, we (group of about 10 people) were walking from the campervan site to the arena and at the security point they checked all our wristbands, and pulled off my boyfriends wristband, just like that, in one swift movement, saying it had been tampered with. Me and him went a bit nuts (as you would), and got the head security man over, after a lot of words spoken, he finally gave it back and we had to to and plead to the wristband tent to put it back on. Ar$eholes. Really put me on a downer for the evening, seriously needs sorting out.

wot would you smackheads no about it! im at university doing my phd. i do it for a bit extra cash, if you get kicked out thats your problem follow the rules and have a good time, i dont need abuse off a bunch of retards! has it ever entered your small-minded brains that we are just doing our jobs! you do your job let me do mine!  ill see you when your serving me in macdonalds!!

they appear to be getting tougher each year.
when we first started going in 2000 you could take drinks into the areana on the Friday night - it wasnt as packed then. and they were a bit more leinient with taking small opened plastic bottles in on the Saturday and Sunday.
over the years they have become stricter - this year i thought they went over the top. At one point they were asking people to "jump up and down" to prove they had nothing!!

I fully understand that all security have a brief they need to follow - but i felt it was a bit silly this year!!

you couldnt even walk past the main stage at the end of the night Whats all that about???

Dear me - seems like someone climbed out of their pram!! Worries me slightly that someone doing a PhD has such terrible grammar but hey hum.

Security we encountered were fine and did a decent job of getting rid of some scallies from behind us.
