I'd say Blink are at least the same level as Kings of Leon or Arctic Monkeys.

I would agree if you were talking about a festival in the usa but this is a british festival with almost exclusively a british crowd. You are comparing them with 2 of the biggest selling bands of the decade, they arent even close.

arctic monkeys -  2 (soon to be 3) number 1 albums, 5 top 10 singles (2 number 1)
kings of leon - 4 top 5 albums (2 number 1), 2 top 10 singles ( 1 number 1)
blink 182 - 1 top 5 album (number 4),  2 top 10 singles

I just dont see your argument, I can see how you can like them as much but not how you think they sell as much,

They literally have taken this "understanding" out of the rumor mill inside their own heads. They also "understood" that AC/DC and Green Day were headlining Leeds not long ago.
AC/DC were set to play and wanted to but they are playing in America.

I read this in clasic rock magazine :)

same level of popularity that was supposed to say.  Even if they don't have as many albums in the charts (only 4 made the top 25) they still have quite a cult following.  I think people are underestimating how big a draw they would be.  As someone else said in this thread, there are people who weren't really old enough to see them last time around who will see them for nostalgia purposes, as well as the casual listeners who might not want to pay for one of their own shows but would pay to see them at a festival.

They may have a decent cult following but you are comparing them with 2 ridiculosuly popular bands who have both crossed over into the mainstream.  These are 2 bands that have sold albums by the bucketload, if blink 182 were as popular as these 2 bands then why have so many less people been willing to put their hands in their pockets to pay for their albums.  I dont doubt that blink 182 are a popular band but their popularity is certainly closer to razorlight and franz ferdindand than it is arctic monkeys and kings of leon.  This is not a criticsm of blink 182 but as I have said you are comparing them to 2 of the biggest selling bands of the last few years.

I think Blink 182 would headline. They've always had a reasonably big fanbase, but have recognition from the casual punters who'll have heard What's My Age Again and will go and see them. Combined with the fact that they haven't played here for years and I reckon that'll be enough for them to headline. When they inevitably announce arena dates they're going to sell out ridiculously quickly. Can't say they'd paticularly excite me though really- I've never really got beyond thinking they're ok.

Yes, say what you want about album sales, but a Blink 182 arena tour, at this point in time, would sell out just as quick as a KOL arena tour. The whole reforming thing adds alot. Look at faith no more. A few months ago, about 6 people had heard of them

They definitely deserve to headline, but think about it, so do The Prodigy, Faith No More and (to a lesser extent), Lostprophets. I reckon they won't, but will make an appearence. In fact, my prediction for top 6 next year is:

Green Day-----Muse-----The Libertines
Blink-182----- MCR-----Bloc Party
