Well, i suppose the definition of a 'crappy band' is when almost everyone says they're crappy. So yes, there is such a thing as a crappy band: you should have seen the band i was in!!!

Surely the festival should just progress and move forward? The reason I'm attracted to Glastonbury is the fact it has bands I loved when I was in my teens (mid to late 90s) and alo bands I'm really into now. Hopefully they'll just get a decent mix of old and new.

Got to like the older stuff as well though, the stuff that older people listened to in their teens ain't necessarily bad.
I'm a bit "young" for the Specials and Madness from this year, as well as Jimmy Cliff, Page and Plant, David Bowie, Blondie and Sting from previous years for example. Keep the bright young things honest.

Unfortunately i doubt i will be around by the time some of these bands today get to still be playing 30/40 years from now so i will never know if any of them become a legend and until that happens no one can say,,but bands from 40 years ago are not crappy but then again i guess it is each to their own.
Every damn time mate

Look ahead to the next 40 years, not back for f**ks sake.
Glastonbury is for all ages
Everyone grows older by the day and one day people will be calling the bands you liked crappy
Glastonbury should remain a mixture of old and young music to pleased every age.

hey, I'm pushing 40, that's already happening
should it though, look at the line up for 1971. Did it have bands from 40 years previously? some 1930s hitmakers? Duke Ellington style big bands?
I'm taking an extreme view and of course, I like a bit of nostalgia as much as everyone else, but it's a festival that should look forward not back, that's all I'm trying to say.

Although, isn't 2010 the final year Big Mike is in charge before passing the torch onto Emily? Maybe the "special headliners" thing conveniently co-incides with the 40th birthday?

There was also The Specials, but yeah, there wasn't much in the way of reunion bands. Well, there was also CSN and Madness but they reformed years ago...

The good thing about Glastonbury is that it's a mix of old and new. Look at the headliners this year. All of them were at their peak well over ten years ago. And then you had The Specials, Nick Cave, Madness, CSN, Tom Jones, Spinal Tap (do they count?), loads more "oldies" up and down the Pyramid. There was only Fleet Foxes, Lily Allen, Kasabian and Dizzee Rascal who were modern acts playing high up.
You could argue that the whole "nostalgia" thing was done this year. One thing I've noticed is that the Friday usually seems to be the day on the Pyramid for current acts but it looks like that was omitted this year.

Who cares about looking forward or backwards, all that matters is that the acts are quality.
I hope older acts (Bowie, Madness, The Who) show up in great force
(and I'm 16)

let's 'ave it!!&, on Jul 27 2009, 05:18 PM, said:I reckon it's only in reference to one of the headliners, in the same way they said this year was the 'year of the comebacks' and the only main act to come back at glasto was Blur.
Well and the Specials, but that's neither here not there.
Can't see it being anything other than a regular year next year.
