Is this true! Wow, that could be something. This will start that tongues wagging. Just who might they be?
Imagine the other and Pyramid stage having a band from all of those eras on it.

Thing is, they didn't seem to do anything notably special for 2000. Obviously David Bowie is a legend but the other two headliners, Chemical Brothers and Travis, were still finding their feet when it came to playing big stages and headlining festivals at the time.

Trouble is, it could be any crappy act from the last 40 years lol. It could also be an excuse to book all the usual Glasto suspects and make out as if it's a "theme" for the year.

This is exactly what I was thinking. Although Emily Eavis seems quite up for doing something special, I got the impression from Michael that he is thinking of next year more of a regular year. So I'm expecting the regular type headliners, perhaps one legend they wouldn't normally get to play (ie. Led zep or reformed Smiths (wishful thinking but along those lines))

What makes you think that acts as you call them where crappy 40 years ago? there where some good bands then that are still around today legends in my eyes something that most bands today will never get that title

I reckon it's only in reference to one of the headliners, in the same way they said this year was the 'year of the comebacks' and the only main act to come back at glasto was Blur.

yeah, this is pretty much what I reckon, loads of status quo type bands, cheesy ironic shite and some more 40 year olds pretending to be edgy and dangerous, before going home to mow the lawn for their in laws (Prodigy, I'm talking to you there)
Look ahead to the next 40 years, not back for f**ks sake.

I think there should be a "Glastonbury through the ages theme."
Maybe bring back the wind turbine by the main stage, have the big CND peace sign on the Pyramid as well. Try and create more of a carnival feel to it with lots of street performer types. I think they should invite back some more unlikely acts like The Fall and Pixies
Oh and get the travellers involved

There was a wind turbine this year, Mark E Smith is banned from Glasto and the travellers are still involved, just in a much smaller way. Pixies would be great though, as would Sonic Youth, Pearl Jam and, of course, Queens of the Stone Age

I don't think you read my post properly. I said they could invite any crappy band from the LAST 40 years back. I never said the bands were crappy 40 years ago. I said there are inevitably crappy bands at every Glasto festival. That can range from the 1st Glasto to Glasto 2008.What makes you think that acts as you call them where crappy 40 years ago? there where some good bands then that are still around today legends in my eyes something that most bands today will never get that title

...but every year at Glastonbury is a special year, I really don't know what they could do to make it extra special. Every year I'm sure they try and get the best line up possible, I doubt EE & ME would be thinking 'oh, best not book this band, they're too good and it's only the 39th year'. Next year, as always, they'll try and get the best line up they can.

I think there's room for both old and new acts. And new acts playing old stuff, and old acts playing new stuff.

Seem to recall a quote from ME saying that he wished this year had been the anniversary cos he isnt sure how to beat this one!

Isn't every year a celebration on the past 40 years in a way? There are acts that span the decades whatever Glasters we go to, so I reckon it ain't going to be massively different.

Dave Bowie would do again, I think that's my best ever glasto moment, very special indeed.

Are there really crappy bands or just bands that you like or you don't? One man's fish is another man's poisson.
