If the Rolling Stones were booked, all I would care about is whether or not they put on a good show.
Does anyone actually know? Has anyone watched them recently?

I saw the 40 Licks tour in 2003 and the Bigger Bang tour in 2007.

Heres the setlist from their 2.5 hour Slane set in '07

Start Me Up
You Got Me Rockin'
Rough Justice
All Down The Line
Dead Flowers
You Can't Always Get What You Want
Midnight Rambler
I'll Go Crazy
Tumbling Dice
You Got The Silver
Wanna Hold You
Miss You
It's Only Rock 'n Roll
Satisfaction
Honky Tonk Women
Sympathy For the Devil
Paint it Black
Jumpin' Jack Flash
Brown Sugar

A total pisstake of a gig basically. Don't think my feet touched the ground for the first or last hours of the gig. They would be perfect at Glasto next year. People who say otherwise are souless, humorless morons.

 :D

I'd be up front, pissed up, and singing and dancing like a moron. But I'd be far from a classic Glasto gig.

I agree with Bob Dylan.

"Without him (Bill Wyman) they're a funk band. They'll be the real Rolling Stones when they get Bill back. They're far from finished though. The Rolling Stones are truly the greatest rock and roll band in the world and always will be. The last too. Everything that came after them, metal, rap, punk, new wave, pop-rock, you name it...you can trace it all back to The Rolling Stones. They were the first and the last and no one's ever done it better."

I saw them play the isle of wight festival in 2007 and, sadly, it was awful. I love the stones but I wish I had not seen this gig. Massive let down.

Would definitely not be a defining glastonbury headliner

Your mum is quite hot in some of those.

I think their purple patch was probably Beggars through Goats Head Soup.

The Taylor years, essentially.

It was a million times worse actually being there, believe me. Never before has a band been such a let down.

Who would have thought that Sympathy for the Devil could ever sound shit? Somehow they achieved it. Gutted.

I have also seen recent footage of paint it black. It sounds horrific.

As someone said a few posts back, I would rather see a stones tribute band

That's sad.  The last times I've seen them, they were good.  The first was on the Steel Wheels tour at Wembley, and the second was at Twickenham about six or seven years ago.  Angus and Malcolm came on stage and jammed Little Red Rooster, I think it was.  Brilliant.

f**king hell, nice one mardy, I never thought anyone would agree with me about that on here.

When you get over the fact that it was a real life beatle on the pyramid stage at glasto the performance was, in fact, piss poor. And, dare I say, boring as hell

EXACTLY the song I was thinking of from that show. I remember watching it and thinking: "No, oh no". For those who aren't too squeamish, here it is. "A funk band". In the shit sense of the word.

I want to see an act at Glasto that I wouldn't get to see any other time (and the price the Stones charge for their concerts falls into that category).

Stones for Glasto?  F**k yes - get them booked, Michael.  It would be terrific.  I have never seen them, always wanted to.  Yes, they're old.  No, they're not as good as they used to be.  But they're the f**king Rolling Stones - dancing like a c**t to some classic tracks under the lights of the Pyramid Stage would be awesome.

I don't particularly care about their 'spirit' being 'wrong' for the festival either.  Sod it - they'd be a great headliner.  I can deal with the ethical side of it at 3am the following morning when I'm pissed off my tits lying on my tent looking up at the stars with the closing riff to Brown Sugar rolling around inside my extremely dizzy head.

A resounding YES from the Wolf over here.
