I really think this could be a possibility.

Think about it

  • Big band that would change the "rock" peoples opinion on the line up
  • They now have nothing to do in August and obviously wanted to play in the UK over August
  • Would be the 2nd f**k you to Sonisphere after Frank Turner

Would only mean moving some bands down one (although i realise the irony that Machine head pulled out of Sonisphere for this exact reason) and would be an enourmous coup for the festival. They have done it before with RHCP when they couldnt play Glastonbury (although that was before the first line up rather than the middle of July)

I still think there is a slight chance of it happening

It would sure as hell stop my whinging B)

That said, it's never gonna happen. There's nowhere for them to go on the bill.

Plus I've lost a lot of respect for them with the events surrounding their Soni drop out. They're too outraged to play th UK date, but the rest of Europe is fine :P

I thought RHCP wanted to play glastonbury but Micheal Eavis turned them down. Once it was anounced by Eavis that they wouldnt be playing Mean Fiddler came in for them.

Slightly different but I knew what I was getting at

They were asked to play last year but were commited to touring America.

I'd assume the unannounced Sunday slots are booked already and just waiting to be announced due to contractual reasons (Not a clue what festival they could be with though?). If someone highish pulled out it'd be a good shout, but aint gonna happen.

Not 100% impossible though I guess, they drafted Killswitch Engage in for Audioslave one year but that was well before July.

Sounds about right.

As for Machine Head, I'm still pissed off with them for not pulling out of the other Sonispheres if they've been so badly treated, so they can go do one.

Besides, where exactly would they slot in? Given that they were "insulted" to have been dropped from "3rd" on the bill at Sonisphere, how much lower would they realistically drop to play R/L with a load of "indie" bands (Machine Head's likely description of the bill, not mine).

Latitude I'm gonna guess.

EDIT: Just realised that's FR too. Does that make a difference?

i presume that if they were added they would insist on playing bottom of the bill cos thay wouldnt want any bands to move down the bill for them.

Where would machine head be on the bill if they played?  Looking at this years line up I guessed maybe 5th as I would say their popualrity is closer to brand new and deftones than fall out boy and vampire weekend.
